We had our boiler serviced in December 2022 by Andy (Mister Boiler). During the service, he also spent some time working on our water cylinder. There had previously been no issues with the boiler or our water cylinder – this was just a routine service. Andy charged £281 for the work including additional time and parts. The invoice included some quite high fees, such as a £15 charge for the replacement of a single 1cm screw. Immediately after the boiler service, the boiler started going into “lockout” mode intermittently (at least once a day). This meant that the boiler turned off, leaving us without hot water or heating until we noticed that the water had gone cold. We contacted Andy to ask why this was happening. He stated that he would need to “book us in for a repair” (with an additional payment, of course) to diagnose the issue. We had assumed that simple things like "boiler shutting off" would be sorted during the service, but Andy did not seem to think so. In the meantime, he suggested we turn the boiler temperature down to avoid it locking out. Until the service, this had never been necessary. A day later, we noticed that our water cylinder was leaking throughout our airing cupboard, causing water damage to the carpet, flooring, and the ceiling below. We had to turn off the mains water supply to stop the leak. Despite these issues never happening until the service, Andy stated that it was not his fault and that he “could not be expected to rectify these faults” without further payment. We therefore asked for a second opinion from a local plumber. This plumber came around the next day and repaired the leak free of charge. He also stated that the leaky fitting on the water cylinder “had definitely been loosened recently” (he was able to move it with just the weight of the spanner alone). He also stated – as we’d expected – that the prices charged were higher than what was needed or what was normal. I got in contact with Andy again to ask for an explanation and to request a small partial refund of £35 to make up for the issues. He refused, stating that he did not cause the leak, accusing me of adjusting the water tank myself, and bad-mouthing the work of the plumber. There are two options for what could have occurred here: 1) he did in fact cause the leak and is lying, or 2) he failed to diagnose the loose fitting (and risk of leak) through negligence, despite charging a lot of money for a check-up of the water cylinder. In either case, the service was sub-par. In his latest email, Andy also strangely accused me of giving him and his family COVID. Before he came to our house, I had a COVID scare (I tested positive once, although I had no symptoms and all previous/subsequent tests were negative). We therefore we texted him in advance to let him know of the risk. When he arrived, I had been isolating all day in a closed room on the top floor. My wife (who never tested positive) opened the front door with a mask, ensured windows and doors were open, and disinfected the boiler. Andy went ahead with the work, doing most of it outside. We were grateful for this, but we think it’s very petty that he made this accusation - perhaps it was an attempt to elicit some sort of feeling of shame from us after we questioned his work. We’ve spoken to some local people about his work, and they’ve given us similar stories, such as a family who had problems with a leaking water tank following his work, another who stated that he “told them off” for not rebooking him for their routine service, and more. Due to his costly fees, careless work, and unprofessional attitude, we would not recommend Mister Boiler.Moreexpand_more
Response : Mr Bagott's review contains incorrect and unproven assertions. I communicated promptly with Mr Bagott and informed him of the issues with his very old and poorly maintained heating system. I was asked to carry out a service of the boiler, during which, I identified several faults with the boiler, 2 of which were dangerous. Subsequent work was carried out to rectify the dangerous faults and further investigation was taken to see what was required to fix a further fault identified during the service, with the boiler.
Due to this I had to supply extra materials and incur a labour charge for extra time taken. Mr Bagott informed me after the service that he knew the boiler was cycling too frequently but he did not realise it was a problem. I explained to Mr Bagott that it indicates a problem with the systems flow, which would need investigation and repair at a later stage. Mr Bagott does not have a water cylinder as he has stated in his review. He has a thermal store (Boilermate) There was no "check up" of this during my visit. I carried out investigation work next to the thermal store. I did not work on, or see the component that was leaking as it was hidden under an insulation jacket. However, a leak in a different location on the Boilermate was pointed out to Mr Bagott and he informed me he would repair it himself. Despite being informed that the flow issue with Mr Bagotts's heating system needing further investigation, he did not book for me to return to repair the issue. The boiler is functioning as it should do and a lot more efficent after it's service. However, a flow problem in the heating system is stopping the boiler from operating correctly. Repairing the flow issue is not part of a service and I can't understand how Mr Bagott would think it would be and for it to be repaired by me free of charge! This review is clearly vindictive and designed to harm my business. Public defamation is a serious matter and I would ask Mr Bagott to remove this revi.Moreexpand_more
