Mike and Steve have been teaching me electric guitar for a couple of years to date, the experience and attention to detail which I receive from them in the lessons is excellent in a relaxed atmosphere, the excellent recording facilities and sound studio are a pleasure to use. Mike has just restrung and lowered the action on my Les-Paul prophecy guitar it plays so much easier now with the work that has been done. I have been a musician for over 30 years and taking lessons again and learning guitar tabs in contrast to musical notation gives me a different focus on learning a different instrument and a great experience being taught by these guys. Brilliant keep up the excellent work! .
Dropped off my second Gibson Les Paul and third guitar to Mr Clarke in recent times for a full setup. This time a 2018 Les Paul Standard, action was a bit high and lots of fret buzzing. Although 99% of my time is spent down south where there are a couple of guitar techs (been disappointed with both) I now will only ever trust my guitars with Mike. He sets them up perfectly and professionally, can not recommend him enough. 10/10 every time! My Paul plays beautifully now!
The first thing I do on buying a new guitar is take it to Mike Clarke to have it set up. I've never been disappointed with the results as they always play much better after Mike has worked his magic on them. My very understanding wife recently bought a PRS Custom SE 24 for my 60th birthday and Mike has done the business again! The guitar plays like a dream!
Had a 2016 USA Strat with awful action making it quite difficult to play so dropped it off at Mr Clarkes for a full setup. It now plays like butter! Plays and sounds exactly like I knew it could and should! I have had a couple of setups from various music stores but never been that impressed but can honestly say this is probably best setup I have ever had done, much so I am letting Mr Clarke do a setup on my Les Paul next! Many thanks Mr Clarke.
I’d been playing bass for a year, getting frustrated, not making progress and on the verge of quitting until a friend recommended the Michael Clarke Studio. I booked a trial lesson and have never looked back. I’m building a solid foundation from which I can develop my technique and musicality and my confidence is growing. It makes me want to put in the practice, learn the theory and discover new bands. Lessons are always fun and relaxed and they are a definite highlight of my week. My favourite sessions are when we put on a drum track, I play bass and my tutor plays rhythym guitar over the top because this is real world tuition. There is little point, especially for a bass player, learning the theory and technique if they cannot lock into the drums and hold down a solid beat. I’ve been encouraged to do this from day one and it is making a big difference to my playing. I am very excited about everything I’ll learn moving forward. In addition, Mike set up my bass for me and it now sounds and plays much better. I would wholly recommend Michael Clarke Guitar and Bass Studio to bassists of any level.Moreexpand_more
I'd been trying to teach myself to play the guitar for over 30 years (I'm 58 now! ) to the point where my wife got so fed up with me giving up and starting again that she bought me 5 lessons (1st lesson is free! ) with Mike as a Christmas present. Mike has been teaching me now for about 18 months and I've learnt so much from him and look forward to every lesson. As other reviewers have stated, Mike creates a really relaxed atmosphere, where we learn so much but have a laugh at times too and Mike is great at picking up on those little things that make a huge difference to your guitar playing. Mike has also set up my guitars for me which makes playing them much easier. The only regret I have is that I wasted so much time teaching myself for so long and wish I'd started with Mike years ago. On that note (pardon the pun! ) I have no hesitation is recommending Mike for guitar lessons and, with the first lesson being free, you have nothing to lose.Moreexpand_more
My son has been having lessons with Jazz for about a year. He loves it and looks forward to his lesson each week. Jazz is a fab teacher and can hold the boys concentration which isn't an easy thing to do for an 8 year old! I haven't experienced any problems but would find both Jazz and Mike easy to discuss any issues with. My son is learning fast and is growing in confidence. Would highly recommend Michael Clarke Studio.
I started lessons at Michael Clarke studio back in August 2017, what a difference it has made to my playing, both Mike and Jazz are both extremely talented teachers. Lessons are very well planned, enjoyable and helpful you really couldn't ask for better tuition than what this place has to offer. I would definitely recommend 10/10 from me.
Be careful as your child may be referred to as a loser and compared to younger students who can do much better. When you let Mike know about your concerns, he then does little other than try to blame your child and call you a liar? When you hear it with your own ears, you know what you hear. All was going ok, however Jazz doesn’t plan lessons, wastes time photocopying tabs and when he eventually gets round to teaching, it’s your child’s fault that concentration may have lapsed and they need to focus? Lots of fab reviews on here so clearly they get it right at times but my experience was poor at best.
My daughter has been taught by Mike since the age of 6. She thoroughly enjoys every single guitar lesson and looks forward to ithe every week. We have also just recently had her guitar fixed by an associate of the studio after it was knocked over in school. I really can't recommend Mike and the studio enough. First class!
I started lessons at the studio back in November 2016 and i'm delighted I did. Having had lessons by another tutor many years ago and not feeling I was progressing as I wanted I fell out of love with playing. Since starting at the studio I found it came back immediately. The lessons are so well structured and my tutor, Jazz, helps to make the lessons relaxed but with the right amount encoragement to bring my playing on. In my time I have been fortunate to experience private lessons as well as the group ones. At first I wasn't sure about the groups, assuming I would miss out in some way or hold others back if they were more advanced than me. I couldn't have been more wrong, the groups were carefully organised to ensure that each individual would compliment the lesson. I certainly think I am improving far more than I ever have before. For me, Michael and Jazz are not teaching me just to reproduce songs, they are teaching me to play……and it's great!Moreexpand_more
If you ever find yourself in need of supportive, top quality guitar and bass tuition, Michael Clarke Studio is the place to be. Being a huge music fan for a long time, I wanted to learn in a place which is geared towards people like myself. The tuition is of the highest standard and Mike and Jazz have both helped me with learning my instrument with no stones left unturned. The sessions are both humorous, relaxed whilst helping students like myself toward their musical goals. The group sessions are an absolute highlight amongst many things. Ive found myself amongst learners like myself who love the instrument as much as I do. Jazz and Mike always help me and everyone else if we are stuck on a certain section of the course and continue to be supportive to this day. So if you ever want to get together with musicians of your ability in a fantastic learning atmosphere with great tutors, don't hesitate to pick up the phone and book in at the studio. You won't regret it!
I'm in my late 50's and decided to take up a new hobby by learning the guitar. Initially I was self taught using various online websites but after a while I was going nowhere fast. I heard of Mikes teaching skills from a friend and through his friendly constructive tuition my enthusiasm has had a Kickstart and I now feel I am getting somewhere. I would also recommend you ask Mike to have a look at your guitar, he will give you an unbiased view, he has set up my guitar in such away that it is now easier to play and sounds far better.
I started coming to lessons here towards the end of August last year and I don't regret a single minute of it. I had little confidence and knew absolutely nothing about Bass but when I left my first lesson I had already learnt so much about the instrument and was playing it too. Mike is patient (thankfully) and incredibly helpful with a great sense of humour which makes every lesson fun and enjoyable and has helped build my confidence hugely since last year. Mike is very reassuring and helpful as I am doing my first RGT Exam soon and he is great at keeping me calm and making me feel a lot more confident about it. Coming here has been one of the best decisions I've made and I would 100% recommend it!
