About Jim's Guitar Workshop

Hello! My name is Jim Croisdale and I'm a qualified guitar tech based in Middleton, Leeds, West Yorkshire. I do all kinds of setup and modification work, from setups, cleaning, restringing and fret levelling to pickup replacement, floating trem adjustment, wiring mods and full refrets.

I have been involved with guitars and basses for almost 25 years. Ever since learning to play the electric guitar aged 16 I have been very interested in the technical side of musical instruments and their maintenance and upkeep. During my A-Level years I worked part time for a local guitar tech and then went on to do a BTEC national Diploma at City of Leeds College of Music, under the tutelage of Ted Lee, Shane Haigh (The String Surgeon) and Paul McNab (Paulmann Guitars) among others. Since that time I have been in many bands and have continued to do guitar tech work consistently along the way.

I am very passionate about my work. While I may never be a racing car engineer who travels the globe, to me, working on guitars is almost as awesome. Guitars are finely engineered pieces of equipment and the fine tolerances and keen eye (and ears) required to work on them effectively make them an exciting challenge that is never the same twice. Whether your guitar cost £50 or £5000, I will give it the exact same level of care and attention.

For many years I was a guitar tech of no fixed abode - working at client's houses or doing work at gigs in the backstage areas. As of April 2016, I've moved house and now find myself with a dedicated workshop and so can begin to offer my experience and services in a more formal capacity. If you've never heard of me before, this is probably why - I was the best kept guitar tech secret in West Yorkshire, as my bank manager will probably tell you. :-).

So, if you've got a guitar that's in urgent need of medical attention or any questions, queries or ideas that you need help with, please get in touch. You can email me via the website in the first instance (I check my emails every 5 minutes!) or call me. I look forwards to working with you!

I first discovered Jim a few years ago after a nasty accident left my BC Rich Warlock with a snapped neck. Jim took one look at it, stayed completely calm, and simply said, “I’ll sort it. ” He certainly did. The repair was outstanding, and the guitar has played better than ever since (photos are even featured on his website). Not long after, I sent him my Ibanez for a full setup and to resolve a dodgy pickup rewire. Once again, the work was absolutely spot on. The guitar came back playing beautifully, and that job is also showcased on his site. Fast forward to this week (02/02/26), and I took my LTD in to have the pickups upgraded to a set of Seymour Duncans. Another superb job from Jim, including a full setup. The guitar now feels incredible and sounds fantastic. Jim truly lives and breathes guitars. His knowledge is second to none, communication is excellent throughout, and the quality of his workmanship is top class. If your guitar needs some care and attention, you couldn’t be in safer hands. Thanks again, Jim - I really appreciate the work you’ve done on the LTD. Cheers. Mark.Moreexpand_more

As a beginner who doesn't know much about guitars I took my Washburn acoustic to Jm because I was struggling with finger pain whilst playing it. He straightened the neck, set the action and changed the strings. What a change! What a guy! Its now a pain free pleasure to play - and the F chord I could never get is easy.
Response : Cheers Richard! :D.

Took my relatively new Ibanez to Jim to have it properly setup. I've recently started playing again and wanted it to play the best it could. I'd said I was happy to pay for the full beans, but Jim insisted it really didn't need much work and only charged me for a setup. The action was previously a little high, and the nut needed a little work. It's now noticeably nicer to play! I'll certainly be taking more work Jim's way once I finish with my other project guitar.

Entrusted Jim with my ESP which had been 'neglected' for a long time. When I got it back I couldn't believe it was the same guitar. Stunning job with incredible attention to detail. Super quick service and a great chap to boot. I honestly would not take my guitars anywhere else.

Setup on a Fender Tele. Great setup, adjusted action and relief perfectly and made it into a much better guitar! Highly reccomend.
