A well taught and supported weekend. Can't speak to value as the WE was a birthday gift to my son and I(but the review insisted I put in something so I put 4), but my 12 year-old and I both had excellent, tailored support, and were able to make some cool tools (spatulas, fire kits, even a portable stove for a cupps). Food was excellent, generally from the land itself, and it was heartening to see the young lad skinning and butchering our supper. Earth ovens, multiple fire sets; looking forward to our next camping trip. Trainers very good at explaining; safety & patience keywords, giving a youngster confidence to handle some pretty sharp tools efectively. And "camp mum" was first class on the catering - we never went hungry, and it was all yummy. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves; heartily recommend.
Attended the Fire & Shelter course with my daughter which we both really enjoyed! The weekend was excellent & we both learnt a lot of new skills which are already coming in handy. Gary & his team really know their stuff & looked after us well, in particular ensuring my daughter did not get left behind on any of the activities & was made to feel part of the team, as she was the only child on the course. I would certainly recommend to friends & family!
I really enjoyed everything we did, and cannot believe how much I have achieved and learned in one weekend. The knife skills teaching was amazing, all the activities slowly built up my confidence and covered so many useful knife skills. I am so pleased I didn’t buy anything ‘before’ the course as the I gained so much experience in what to look for in tools and equipment too. Gary and all the many instructors were excellent, and during the breaks and evenings they were always on hand to discuss and demonstrate what they know. Also, with the regular coffee and teas, and superb cooked meals during the day and evenings, it made camping and being out over the weekend a real joy!
I attended the Food and Water course and found it to be a well-planned and well-executed introduction to bushcraft. I was impressed by how much we got done in just 2 days - building a fire from scratch, cooking meals, made a pot hanger and a spatula, filleted a fish, skinned a rabbit, and more. All this sleeping out in the open in a lovely setting. The instructors were excellent as well - great weekend.
Well run course with friendly staff, who are all very knowledgable and made the whole weekend safe but fun. I wish I'd found something like this before now having never been in the brownies or guides this course gave me the chance to catch up on "lost youth" and learn new skills it invigorated me no end. I would highly recommend this to anyone, male or female of absolutely any age. Looking to book my next course very soon. Lesley Beatson.
What a fun packed weekend! We were taught lots of engaging subjects like firelighting, food preperation and how to collect and purify water. The time flew by because we were so busy but the instructors kept us all engaged and were great fun and relaxed. A huge effort was placed on the catering and i was offered food cooked and prepared in the woods that i would be happy to pay for in a restuaunt. Can't wait to book another course.
I recently attended a Jack Raven Fire and Shelter course with a group of friends. We had a great time and found the course to be very enjoyable as well as very informative. Gary and Frank and co really know their stuff. We also particularly enjoyed having second helpings of Nicola's fantastic home made grub!
