John was contacted regarding a loft conversion to our bungalow. He arrived at the agreed time for the initial consultation and the follow-up consultation. He listened to what we wanted then went through all options and choices like where best to have the stairs to maximise the loft space. He provided us with an estimate based on our decisions. John and his team were punctual every day and also would tidy at the end of each day to minimise disruption. They had a good work ethic throughout the 5 weeks of the job. They answered any questions and gave updates of their progress. All extra tradesmen John brought in also worked to his high standards. The price we were quoted was the price we paid. We were delighted with our loft which was bigger than we originally expected. It is refreshing to have a tradesman that turns up when agreed and does a quality job at a good price. I was given a fair price for work and John was excellent, always punctual and left everywhere spotless and I would highly recommend him.

John did work on my house, including extending and creating bathrooms, chimney breast removal, loft boarding and new loft hatch. Nothing was too much trouble. Himself and the people that assisted him were all polite and courteous. Cleaned up after themselves, removed all rubbish etc. John organised all the materials and equipment for me. Really pleased with the end result. Excellent all round service, will 100% use again.

We had asked John to a do variety of jobs, renovating an empty flat, including joinery and roofing, and the standard of work is excellent. As also the work of his sub- contractor, a plasterer. Having previously experienced unreliable people who did shoddy work, it was a relief to find someone who takes pride in his work and is clean and reliable.

John arrived at the time agreed and completed the job within a week. I required blown bricks to be replaced and the full rear of my home pointed. In spite of the mess my brickwork created, everything was cleaned each day, which made the job easier for me to cope with, I am disabled and John did everything possible to reduce all risks for me throughout the job. I am delighted with the completed job and have recommended John to my friends. I do so with complete confidence that he can be relied on to provide the same quality of work and service he provided to me. The job was competitively priced. I will certainly use Johns services for any other building tasks I require in future and would have no hesitation in recommending him to others who require a quality building service.

John has just completed installing a wet room for me. He did everything himself from designing, purchasing the shower, toilet and sink and installation, the only thing I had to do was choose the tiles. I can honestly say that his workmanship is outstanding and his professionalism is second to none. I decided halfway through that I wanted my ceiling replacing, he sorted this out without making me feel bad about messing him around. John was always pleasant, always on time and cleaned as he went along and it was a pleasure having him create my dream bathroom.

John laid our wooden flooring in the lounge and hallway and did a brilliant job, especially faced with the issue of the front door not being high enough. He came back and lifted it so there was enough clearance. We’ve also recently had a side door fitted in our garage, which was a great job, such a good finish and tidied up afterwards. Highly recommend the workmanship.

The work was completed on time and in price with our estimate. I would highly recommend J Birtwistle as the team were on time, clean (where possible) and we were kept upto date as required throughout the 4 days they were in our home.

John recently built some wardrobes for me. He considered my financial situation and gave me alternative quotes with different materials providing choice and value. He turns up when he says he will which is fantastic and appreciated. He was polite, approachable and hard working. I couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Side gate made and fitted, they don't make things like they used to so wood was a litle thinner than original but they don't sell the wood they did 25 years ago. The locking system is good, but with our extreme weather conditions it doesn't shut from the outside anymore. (not Johns fault, its the weather) John made a beautiful gate and its a lovely colour, no mess, no fuss and early and fast workman. He also fit an interior door for us, phoned him to enquire he was round in 20 minutes (this was the saturday, work was done and complete by 9:30am on Tuesday) no mess, no fuss and £40. 00 very reasonable! Will certainly be using him again in the future! Finally found a reliable joiner, who does what he say's he will do. All invoices and breakdown of costs also provided! The perfect HANDYMAN!

John and his son recently completed building work for me which included:- Knocked down two walls downstairs to fit a new kitchen, then built one back up because I changed my mind- Advised in the planning and layout of the new kitchen and liaised with the structural engineers and building control ensuring we had the certificates of work- Advised us on underfloor heating (absolute god send) and something I had not even thought of- Managed to install a downstairs toilet and wash basin - Kept us up to date on works carried out and left essential things like washing machine and sink to the very last minute - Always on time and very clean and most of all very patient as I kept changing my mind In summary I can highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again. Roof work undertaken to weatherproof a chimney stack followed by work removing stairs, reinstating floor, taking out a partition wall to create a larger bathroom space upstairs and cloakroom downstairs. Involved many aspects of building work; pointing, brick laying, joinery etc. - really pleased with work done. Trustworthy, punctual and really good communication throughout. Highly recommended.

Our house required extensive renovations including new central heating, a rewire, new windows and doors, new kitchen and shower room etc along with a loft conversion and a large rear extension. We awarded the contract to John Birtwistle based on a recommendation from a previous client. During all of the work John and his son kept us fully informed about progress and they used their expertise and experience to talk us through the very many options and considerations at each stage. I can confirm that this building contractor has just worked at my house for the last 4 days and I am more than happy with this professional company and have no hesitation in recommending them. The types of work they did for me was to fit a bi-folding door, add coving, repairing brickwork, replace lintels, some damp proofing work, re-application of sealant around windows etc. Good prices, superb quality of workmanship. I have already asked if they will do some other work for me - I can't recommend them enough.

We very recently had John build a studded wall for us, and some plastering work in our loft for my sons new room ready for Christmas. The work he has carried out is of the highest quality. John and his son have just completed fitting a kitchen for me. They have taken out the old kitchen, replaced joists and floorboards, sorted a damp problem, fitted new kitchen and appliances, tiled walls and floor and are returning within the next couple of weeks to do some plastering work. At every stage, from quoting until completion, both were cosummate professionals, turning up exactly when stated, clearing as they went and explaining everything in a clear and non patronising manner. In addition, they tolerated my poor measuring, ordering and decision making skills and solved problems this caused creatively and with good grace - they even worked around my poorly cat! The work is completed to an incredibly high standard. And I now have exactly the kitchen I want. I recommend John wholeheartedly and without any reservations whatsoever.
