About I Paint Your Pet

I Paint Your Pet provides lovingly painted portraits of people's pets, whatever the animal. Valerie can often be seen working in high quality pastels at dog, cat or horse shows. She paints highly detailed art, which is often mistaken for a photograph, providing work to show and pet owners, for themselves or as a gift for another, throughout the world. The business, which can be found in Northamptonshire, originally started out in 2011 when redundancy occurred, allowing Valerie to use her 50 years of experience in the world of animals and painting to uniquely bring pleasure to others with her work.

I Paint Your Pet has an expanding network of clients, located worldwide, including pet owners who wish for a painting before they lose a beloved pet and show owners who want likewise, but also wish for a painting to show the beauty of their show animal.

Valerie creates many paintings as gifts for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries etc. A painting of a much loved pet, that is no longer with the owner, is a very special one indeed. Creating such a painting is for Valerie, bittersweet, and she feels very honoured to do so.

It is important to Valerie that clients enjoy the process of commissioning their pet's portrait. To do this she ensures every client is able to choose exactly what they want with regards to all the details of the commission. However not all clients know what they want and so Valerie's years of experience enable her to guide a client, whist at the same time allowing them the chance to stay fully in control. Enquiries are answered within 24 hrs and she stays in contact with the client throughout the process. No money is taken until the commission is complete, the client has viewed it on the internet or by a posted print and they are 100% delighted with the result.

I met Valerie at Crufts in 2020 and was drawn to her stand by her work. She has a gift of being able to bring a picture to life and allow the animal to express it's character. The portrait she has done of Skye is amazing in every way. Unfortunately life events delayed her completion of Skye but it was worth the wait. Her detailed advice regarding unwrapping and framing of the portait to avoid damage was much appreciated and helped me decide who to trust with framing it. Absolutely delighted. Thank you so much Valerie xx.
Response : Ah Annette that is lovely, thank you so very much. Life certainly can get in the way . But I'm delighted you are so happy with Skye and that the framing worked out beautifully. Bless you, enjoy forever XX .

Valerie is an extremely talented artist and a truly lovely person, her work is incredible. I am so grateful to her for the most life like painting of my beautiful German Shepherd, Jade. Valerie has captured her to perfection and I can't phrase her work enough. The portrait brought me to tears when I received it. Thank you Valerie and I wish you all the very best wishes.
Response : Ah bless you Alison, the same goes for you, a lovely client all the way through. I'm delighted that you are so happy with Jade, such a gentle soul. Tears are good sometimes, they show I did my job and now you can talk to her and enjoy her forever. Hugs Valerie XXX.

Valerie was absolutely excellent to me throughout the whole process. Offering thorough, expert advice on photos, care of the portrait and framing to me. I felt in safe hands from the first email. I loved being kept thoroughly updated and appreciated her working around my prefernces. The portrait was utterly jaw dropping and reduced the recipient of my gift to tears. The attention to detail brought out apsects of my cat that I had forgotten about myself, bringing back some lovely memories. Thank you ever so much Valerie, your art will make a beautiful addition to the atmosphere of our household for decades to come!
Response : Hi Kipp . Likewise, you were excellent to work with, making my life so much easier. I am delighted to hear your recipient was brought to tears. That means I hit the spot and did my job. I am extremely lucky, thank you. Enjoy for all the decades ahead. Kindest Regards Valerie.

I first saw Valerie’s work at Burghley horse trials. I instantly fell in love with her paintings and decided to have a painting done of our beloved red setter for my mums special birthday. The painting was everything I wanted and more. We had tears of joy and were all utterly delighted with the end result. Valerie was great the whole way through the process, ensuring she had captured every aspect I wanted to incorporate from start to finish. Thank you so much Valerie we all LOVE it.
Response : Ah bless your heart and your Mums, Bridget. Khan was a delight to capture, such a gorgeous expression and you were brilliant making sure you got the right print for me to work from. Teamwork. I am as thrilled as you are. Enjoy forever . I am so very lucky XX.

I first heard about Valerie when I was given a surprise 40th birthday present of my Australian Kelpie ‘Jammy’ He was absolutely amazing and I was speechless. I have since returned and had my Labrador ‘Mo’ done, I have waited over a year due there being a waiting list but that speaks volumes of how outstanding Valerie’s work is. I was yet again blown away by how fantastic it was. I love my dogs portraits and I love your work I Would highly recommend you are an amazing artist, and I will treasure them forever.
Response : Ah Tracy, that is lovely thank you. Jammy (who you have posted on here) was painted 7 years ago, where did that time go? ! I was delighted t o hear from you for Mo to be painted, a black Labrador with a festive bow on his head, delightful and different. I loved painting him, thank you so much for coming back to me and trusting me. I am very blessed when clients treasure my work forever, what more can I ask for. X.

Valerie, what can I say. We were blown away with the beautiful painting of our very precious poppy, who is now nearly 15 years old. She has a beautiful head and melting expression which you have captured to perfection. The quality of your art work brings tears to your eyes, quite overwhelming. This is the second painting you have done, megan another black cocker spaniel a number of years ago, again amazing work. Anyone who is thinking of wanting a portrait of a special animal captured to perfection, it will be a treasured artwork, and worth every penny. Nothing but perfection is good enough for valerie, and such a wonderful person to deal with, she is so welcoming it's our first stop at crufts every year to see her and her lovely husband. We have ordered 2 more commissions one of our young cocker spaniel and one of our shetland pony. Heartfelt thanks for your amazing work. Jono and Angela Scott.Moreexpand_more
Response : Oh bless you both, you truly have brought a lump to my throat. I am so blessed to work with such kind, genuine animal lovers. Poppy will be taking pride of place on my stand at Crufts next year (if it goes ahead of course! ) . I cannot wait as I know everyone will love her. She is a beautiful girl. Barry and I look forward to meeting you both again, take care hugs Valerie XX.

On our visit to Burghley Horse Trials 2018 my husband and I were immediately drawn in by Valerie's beautifully detailed paintings of animals. We had a chat with Valerie and watched her as she painted with such precision and care. We decided right away we would like Valerie to paint our lovely Greyhound Ruby. Valerie was so helpful with advise regarding colour and light in photos, and discussed many options for frames. We collected our painting yesterday, we're both amazed at how detailed and life like our painting is. Ruby's eyes follow us wherever we are in the room! We absolutely love our painting! Thank you so much Valerie you are a truly talented artist.
Response : Ah bless you Gail, that is so lovely of you and thank you so very much for noticing my attention to detail, that means everything to me. I love my work, and Ruby was just stunning, plus your photograph of her was fabulous. So it was a team effort. I met Ruby at Burghley too, what a wonderful girl she is, calm, serene and so very glossy with eyes you can just sink into. How could I not fail to capture such a beautiful dog. Thank you so very much to you both for being truly lovely clients. XX.

I met Valerie at Crufts 2017 when I was looking for an animal portrait artist to paint my recently passed on collie. When viewing her samples I was struck by the extreme realism she captured and decided she was definitely the artist for me. She was a pleasure to work with from the very start and has made the process easy. She is an outstanding artist and I can not heap enough praise on her for her astonishing talent. She bought my gorgeous boy to life, it was as if he could step off the backing and live again. The portrait once it arrived totally surpassed my expectations and hopes, the colours and minute detail were exquisite. Valerie is an extraordinary talent who in the best way possible has bought several members of my family to the brink of tears with the realism and beauty of the portrait. .
Response : Oh my goodness Debbie, that is such an amazing review, thank you so very much. I am blown away by the generosity of my clients and the love they have for their wonderful companions. Bless you for your love of Kye and for trusting me to bring him back to you in this way. I hope his portrait brings you much joy over the years. He was a true delight to paint for you, so very lovely to look at, but his soul was equally gorgeous, shining out of his eyes. Thank you again so very much love Valerie XX.

I received Francs picture from Valerie last week and it exceeded all my expectations. I had been looking for a long time for someone to paint a picture of Franc and hadn’t seen anyone that I wanted to trust with doing what was going to be my birthday present and a forever memoir of him. It was while I was at Crufts 2018 that I first saw Valerie’s work, I was blown away by all of her pictures and knew straight away that she was the one to do my picture. From the first time of talking to her right up until the present day she has been a pleasure to deal with, she has helped me to make the right decisions by giving me the options and explaining everything, she has been so friendly and a delight to communicate with. I have shown many people the picture and everyone has been totally amazed at the quality of it (including the framer) it is such a tremendous talent to be able to produce a picture that has captured exactly Francs likeness, I couldn’t have chosen anyone better and will be getting a picture done of my other dog in the not to distant future. I would have given her 10 stars if I could have.
Response : Ahhhh Lindsay, that has brought a tear to my eye, thank you so much. Franc was an absolute delight to paint for you, his eyes I could get lost in. His expression was so very knowing, I didn't want to finish him! You too were a delight, and I am not just returning a compliment. You made my job so easy to do and then you gave me a stunning photo . I am a very lucky pet portrait artist. Thank you so very much and I cannot wait to paint for you again. Bless you and Franc XX.

I have just received my fabulous painting of my Standard Poodle Kai back from the framers. I met Valerie at Crufts in 2018 and fell in love with her paintings. My daughter very kindly bought the painting for me for birthday/Christmas presents (2 years worth! ). Being white, I knew that Kai would be a challenge for Valerie to capture but wow what a picture - it is like Kai is looking out of the frame. The colours Valerie could see ( but I couldn't) were amazing - shades of pink, blue and yellow all in what I thought was a white coat. After studying the painting and looking at Kai in sunlight I can see every colour. He is a special dog to me now 8 years old but I will have him with me forever. Thank you Valerie. I would recommend Valerie to anyone who has a special pet they would like capturing in pastels. I would also like to thank Glyns Framing in Market Drayton for the fab job he did of framing the painting in Oak with a double mount and Truview glass. It really finishes this work of art off.Moreexpand_more
Response : Bless you, he will always not only be very special to you, but to me also. He is my first white poodle and such an absolute delight to paint, a stunning boy. As he was paid for by your family, he will be even more special to you, just wonderul. Thank you so very much for such wonderful comments concerning my work, I am so very very lucky. Bless you Sue, you were a true delight to work with and i am delighted you are also happy with your framers framing . It is the crowning glory. Take care XX.

I saw Valerie's work at Burleigh horse trials and was so struck by her work I arranged there and then for her to paint Zeus, to whom my husband is devoted. Zeus has been poorly for much of his life but has a special magic that Valerie has somehow captured. The painting was a surprise and when my husband saw it, he went very quiet and said 'I have him forever now'. Valerie was a delight to deal with, great communicator, true to her word at every step, did the painting in good time and went the extra mile in adding a lovely background. She gave good advice about the size of the painting and what to include in it. I recommend her very highly.
Response : Ah bless you Charlotte, thank you so much for your really kind words. I loved painting Zeus, such a gorgeous face and soulful eyes . The setting just had to be added. You were a brilliant lady to work with, as you are also a great communicator, you answered me really promptly each time, which so helps. Thank you again and I hope to meet you at a show sometime. Kind regards Valerie XX.

Firstly, before I describe the quality of Valerie’s painting can I just say what a pleasure it was to work with Valerie. She was an absolute delight and kept me fully informed throughout the process. I came across Valerie via a web search. After comparing different artists I settled on Valerie. The best decision I made. I wanted to have a picture painted of our Cairn Terrier, Winston, as a Christmas present for my wife. After many photographs being exchanged between myself and Valerie we settled on one that captured the spirit of Winston. Unfortunately, for me I inadvertently left a photo on my phone which my wife saw and she asked for it for her phone too. Now at this point she decided that she wanted the photo enlarging and framing which I managed to stall. After a couple of months or so Valerie sent me a photo of the finished painting. I actually thought she had inadvertently sent me back my original photo it was that good! So, after discussing the correct frame with Valerie, the big day arrived. My wife unwrapped the painting and commented what a great photo it was, until I told her to take a closer look. You could visibly see her jaw drop when she realised it was a painting. Just the reaction for which I was hoping. Valerie is THAT GOOD! Thank you Valerie for delivering the perfect Christmas present and one that we will cherish for many years. We will definitely be getting our new dog, arriving in 2019 painted by Valerie.Moreexpand_more
Response : Wow, wow David, what a marvelous review, thank you so very much. I am grinning from ear to ear. You too were fabulous to work with, as you got right into the process and gave it 100%. Winston is adorable and I am so very thrilled with his portrait and your Wife's reaction. I hope to meet you and your Wife at Crufts next year, bless you. Fingers crossed a print of Winston will be on my stand. Have a very happy 2019 Kind regards Valerie.

I met Valerie at Crufts in 2017 and decided to get a picture of my staffie Lucy Lou painted. Lucy is white and Brindle and Valerie managed to catch her colour brilliantly. She also managed to capture Lucy's spirit and character so well. I took an age to pick a photo to use and Valerie helped me throughout, answering emails almost immediately. I have just had the painting framed and the framer stated it was one of the best paintings he's ever seen. The owner was so impressed that he will be contacting Valerie to paint a painting for himself. I would highly recommend Valerie to anyone who is looking to have a painting done.
Response : Oh wow Cerian, thank you so very much for such a glowing review, bless you. I am chuffed to bits you are so happy, Lucy Lou was lovely to paint for you, so thank you for getting a fab photo in the end. I can only do what I do, when clients work with me and you did. Take care Cerian please come and say hi at a show one day if you can. Kind regards Valerie X.

Valerie recently painted my partner's deceased Collie Sam. We cannot recommend her highly enough. From start to finish she was professional, helpful, kind and friendly and we were both thrilled by the finished work. Such a talented artist. I know we will both treasure the painting for many years to come and can't wait to get it framed and on the wall. Thank you Valerie. You are amazingly talented xx.
Response : Ah bless you Claire, thank you so much for a lovely review. Sam's photo captured his personality so very well, he was a delight to paint. I am honoured to paint such treasured companions for clients, and to know my paintings bring such joy for so very long, is a blessing. Take care both of you, and again, thank you for trusting me with a treasured portrait XX.

I wanted a portrait of my best friend Henry who I sadley lost on 21/07/2017, he was everything to me and the portrait had to be right. I was Lucy enough to meet Valerie at Burghley horse trials in August 2017 and view her wonderful work. Valerie was so kind, helpful and professional with such an amazing talent, by far the best pet artist I have ever seen. Valerie advised me what I needed to do / provide to enable her to paint Henry. I chose Henry's photo which I took myself in March 2017, this was just how Henry was and captured his character, it was even more sentimental as it was my picture. Valerie provided regular updates and any questions I had she advised / answered straight away. When Henry's portrait was completed Valerie advised that I could have my painting framed or unframed, I was probably not the easiest client here as I asked Valerie to frame Henry's portrait but explained I didn't want to see my painting until I was with Valerie at Burghley horse trials last week ( August 2018 ). This was some people may feel a bit unfair of me to leave everything to Valerie but because she had done all the hard work I wanted to see Henry with her for the first time and had every confidence in Valerie. I was absolutlely amazed when I saw Henry's portrait, I broke down I was so emotional it is fantastic, I can't thank Valerie enough, she has an incredible talent and is so understanding and professional and you can clearly see how much Valerie loves what she does. I have Henry's portrait on my living room wall and it is so life like I feel his eyes follow me. I miss Henry so very much and his portrait is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. If you are thinking of having your pets portrait done then look no further I can honestly say you will be choosing the best artist in Valerie, from the moment you place your order. To picking up your portrait. Thank you Valerie from the bottom of my heart.Moreexpand_more
Response : Oh my goodness Jackie what an amazing review, bless your heart. I always have lovely clients, but you have surpassed everything. Truly the emotion from you and from your photo of lovely Henry, was just so powerful, even a psychic lady visiting my stand was drawn to it. She could feel how much you felt, more than from any of the other paintings. You are a truly warm and thoughtful lady, Henry was very lucky to share his life with you, and I am honoured you asked me to paint such a treasured portrait, thank you so very much. I was very happy, if a little worried, to arrange the framing without you even seeing your portrait via email, but it worked out really beautifully, thank you again for trusting me so much. Take care Jackie, bless you, I will enjoy the memory of painting for you, forever XX.Moreexpand_more

I wanted to purchase a portrait of our pet springer spaniel Muffin as a surprise for my husband's 65th birthday. I had spent some time searching the internet and was fortunate to come across Valerie's website. Unfortunately I wasn't in a position to view Valerie's work in person, and was a little nervous at arranging things via her website. I shouldn't have worried. Valerie was extremely helpful and reassuring and made the whole process straight forward. She kept in touch on a regular basis via email. Her advice in choosing the right photograph with sufficient detail was particularly helpful. Muffin’s portrait is superb and Valerie has captured Muffin perfectly. Overall, we are extremely happy with our portrait and it is fair to say that she really cares about her work. Would we recommend her services? Absolutely.Moreexpand_more
Response : Ah bless you Lorraine, thank you so much. Buying from the internet is always scary, we just never know nowadays. To have you say on here, that my work was worth it, is just brilliant. I loved painting Muffin for you, such character! You were great to work with also, you put a lot into getting the right photo, so without you, I could not have given you Muffins portrait. I am so happy you are happy . Enjoy Muffin now forever . XX.
