Grate Finds is an independent fireplace specialist based in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. We source and sell distinctive fireplaces for period properties, including genuine Victorian and Edwardian examples as well as carefully chosen later castings. Our changing stock includes cast iron inserts, combination fireplaces and traditional wooden and cast iron surrounds.

Every fireplace is individually inspected, prepared, measured and photographed before being offered for sale. We provide clear dimensions and practical fitting information so customers can judge whether a particular fireplace is suitable for their home. Where appropriate, original features and period character are carefully retained rather than being replaced unnecessarily.

Customers are welcome to visit our Dorset workshop by appointment to view fireplaces in person before buying. We also deliver throughout our normal delivery area using our own vehicle, which allows these heavy and fragile pieces to be handled carefully from our workshop to the customer's home. We supply fireplaces but do not provide an installation service.

Choosing a period fireplace is often about more than appearance. Proportions, chimney opening size and the style of the room all need to work together. We are happy to help customers compare measurements and decide whether a fireplace is likely to suit their property, including smaller bedroom fireplaces and larger fireplaces for principal rooms.

Our stock changes regularly because reclaimed and antique fireplaces are individual pieces rather than mass-produced products. We look for interesting examples with good period character, from simple cast iron bedroom fireplaces to more elaborate tiled and arched designs. New pieces are added as they are prepared and become ready for sale.
