Douglas took on the seeemingly impossible task (which other clock repairers had turned down) of replacing 5 stripped/damaged teeth to my carriage clock's cog wheel enclosing the clock-winding spring. The job took time and patience from both parties, but the clock is now restored to the mantelpiece and chimes out the hours once again.
Mr McLennan of Grange Clocks,7 Summerhall Place, Causewayside, Edinburgh is one of the most experienced and respected professionals in the industry of 'Horology'. If you have a clock or watch that you want repaired you can not do better than to visit ‘Grange Clocks’ for the finest level of workmanship in Scotland. I have had a number of Clocks and a very special Watch that was my father's repaired and I am delighted with the results. Many thanks. Graham Carnie.

I contacted Mr McLennan to ask if he could bring my grand-parents' 1930s Art Deco bakalite alarm clock back to life. I had not heard it ticking since the 1970s so was delighted when I got it back in working order. It was not a straightforward affair as there was a wind-up mechanism missing but Douglas managed to secure a spare part. I am grateful for the work which he did to enable me to reconnect with people and times long gone. And his fees were very reasonable. It really made my day!
Have several clocks requiring attention/servicing after moving to Edinburgh - Grange visited, inspected two grandfather clocks, one working one not. They conducted cleaning of the 2 clocks in the back of the car but no service(! ) both worked but the one that had stopped, stopped again shortly afterwards. At the time we also asked for a couple of carriage clocks to also be serviced but were told it would be c 3 months before such work could be looked at and Grange would get back to us. Nearly 9-10 months later we are still waiting for them to contact us and the one grandfather clock that didn't work still doesn't ! . Extremely disappointing service and expensive (£120+) for 10 minutes back of the car work with a brush, vacuum cleaner and drop of oil. Would never recommend or use them again and have now already got quotes from other clock service companies. Not customer focussed.
We were delighted to find Grange Clocks who have now repaired our 18th century grandfather clock after it has not ticked for over a decade. Dougie was kind, efficient and reassuring, everything you need when you have an ailing and very ancient clock! We cannot recommend Dougie and Grange Clocks highly enough.
Many thanks to Dougie for his professionalism and skills to bring back to life two treasured clocks neither of which had ticked for many years in one instance over 40 years. He did not only repair the mechanics of the clock he also brought the original cosmetic glory back to them making them very pleasing on the eye. Dougie also has a very pleasant personal manner with a backup service second to none. He readily attends to home to pickup and return clocks.
Dougie came today and serviced our family grandfather clock which hasn’t been working for years. He knew exactly what was needed and was very careful, very professional and very friendly. He then looked at another clock and within seconds had it going but wouldn’t charge for it. He was also honest about a third clock which may not be worth repairing. He wasn’t willing for us to waste money. We would recommend him very highly indeed. Thank you very much!
Good horologists are thin on the ground these days, so I was really pleased to find Dougie. He replaced the mainspring on my lovely old fusee wall clock, and also made it a new pendulum spring, with no bother at all. Service was quick and efficient and it was fun as well as helpful to receive footage and photos of the work in progress. Dougie also knows his Edinburgh clock history. I learned a lot! I'm so happy to have my clock back in top working condition. Highly recommended.
I had the most amazing service from Dougie. I phoned him on the Monday and that afternoon he came to service my grandfather clock plus one other. He took away a small carriage clock and he returned it within a week. He had even polished the silver. ! He was absolutely incredible and I can’t recommend him highly enough. A lovely gentleman who gives 100% plus. Very rare these days.
I phoned Dougie McLennan regarding a one hundred year old wall clock which had been dropped and had stopped working. I was surprised that D. Mc. Could work out the problem just by my explanation of why the clock had stopped. He arranged a time for me to bring the clock to his shop. Once there he fixed the clock in my presence and oiled the moving parts. He did not charge me for his time and informed me to return if it stopped working in the future. I found Mr D. Mc. To be very friendly, courteous and obviously benevolent. I would recommend without hesitation. Thank you D. Mc.
Took a clock in to be serviced after it traveled from Germany, it was a Christmas present for my mother. The owner of this company then removed it's bevelled glass panels and replaced them with cheap glass and changed the mechanism inside to take the parts for other clocks. I obviously took it to the police and the case has gone to the fiscal. Beware using this company and if you've had a clocks glass panels replaced you may have bought stolen goods.
I had a grandmother Clock that was going in to an auction sale and the pendulum was broken. I only had a few days to get it repaired and after reading the great reviews on. Grange Clocks I called Doug to ask him for his advice and help. He was so so accommodating and he assured me he would have the pendulum fixed for the sale. He did exactly what he said he would do and he repaired it on time. He was so helpful and not expensive at all. I could not recommend him highly enough, do no hesitate to contact him as you will not be disappointed I assure you.
I was most impressed by the quality of attention and care I received when I asked Doug of Grange Clocks to repair my mother's grandfather clock. I was delighted that he was able to come the same day as I phoned him and he arrived exactly when he said he would. He gave a clear explanation of the problem and repaired and serviced the clock. It is now working better than ever. As the clock means a lot to my mother, this prompt and efficient attention was much appreciated. I would highly recommend Grange Clocks and would certainly use the company again.
Having dropped the watch shown in the picture I was advised by my insurance company that all they could because of the damage was offer me a scrapage for the watch, as the watch was had belonged to my grandfather and had already advised that the watch would be given to my grandson I contacted a top jeweller in Aberdeen to see if they could help, they could offer no assistance, I was finally able to find Dougie on the www and after explaining the damage and sending him a picture he advised to send the watch to his shop in Edinburgh. Dougie has completely repaired the watch with new glass face and main Spring, given the watch a complete clean and checked the watch! S timing before returning to me. Finding horologists in Scotland is very hard but finding one of the caliber of Dougie was a godsend for me and my grandfathers watch.
