Dressed To Impress

When we realised quite early on that finding a prom dress to fit my petite daughter was going to be a challenge we contacted Sue to see if she could help. Sue was incredibly detailed in her advice regarding the pros and cons (including cost differences) of either buying and altering an off the peg dress or having a bespoke dress made. This confirmed our initial thoughts that bespoke was the way to go. The following 6 months were incredibly exciting for my daughter and me as we worked with Sue on the design of the dress, which ended up being a combination of two patterns to bring my daughters vision to life, plus other detailing changes. Sue's experience and guidance was crucial from ordering fabric samples and considering fabric finishes and movement to ensuring the finished dress fitted perfectly! The main fabric we ended up using was one Sue found at a trade exhibition and kindly bought on spec with Holly's dress in mind, and it really was the perfect choice of gorgeous deep navy with a subtle embossed floral pattern and super soft with the most beautiful drape! Sue's expertise and knowledge of not only the dressmaking process but also how to engage with someone else's vision are incredible. Sue is extremely kind and understands completely the nature of this process and the timing required, so that everything is completed with time for final adjustments. We felt completely at ease asking questions throughout this exciting project and can't thank Sue enough for her time, energy, and enthusiasm. In my daughter's words 'I love it so much and felt amazing wearing it! I can't thank you enough. Everyone was so amazed with how it looked and that it was made specially for me!' I had a lovely black dress of mine altered for my daughter to wear to her prom. It was a complicated fabric and a lot needed to be take off the straps as they'd lengthened over the years. The zip had to be taken out and a bandeau around the top removed, taken in and the sewn back on. Sue was really carefully with getting the correct and precise measurements for my daughter. She was very well prepared and had a private space for her to be fitted discreetly. Oh my goodness! The dress fits her like a glove, like it was made for her and she both looks and feels amazing in it! I can't tell that it's been taken apart at all! I can't believe how impressed I am and I'm going to be getting another dress altered with Sue in the future! Extremely reasonable prices indeed, especially considering all the work involved AND the dress was steamed as well! Thank you so much! Sue altered my daughter's wedding dress in August 2025. She fitted a bustle to enable Katie to dance the night away. She also painstakingly steamed all the layers and the dress looked amazing. Sue was friendly and put us at ease straight away. We were so happy with her service that I am about to ask her if she can do some alterations to my daughter in law to be's wedding dress.

Was recommended to Sue for taking up a dress. It wasn’t the easiest of dresses to work with, given it had two layers and chiffony type material to get just right. Sue did an super job, in fact I think she improved the dress! As a short person, I often have need for alterations and would not hesitate to return to Sue knowing what a fantastic seamstress she is.

Sue is amazing. What an incredible seamstress! My dress was super complicated to alter, it meant taking loads of appliqué off to be able to amend four layers of material, to then sew them all back on. Not to mention fact she has to move the sleeves after that! She has done a stunning job. Sue does everything to perfection, she does it all the hard way (for her! ) to make it just perfect (for you) which you really appreciate when you’ve invested in a dress. Sue at Dressed to Impress was recommended to me via a local Facebook group that I am in, I had a mother of the bride dress that I needed altering in several locations and I didn’t want to travel back to London and the store that I bought it in to get it altered. I contacted Sue at Dressed to Impress as I needed a plus size, off the peg wedding dress altered to fit, after many recommendations from Wed2Be bridal shop in Southampton and on local Facebook forums. From the first contact through to picking up my dress the day before my wedding, Sue has been nothing but professional, accomadating, confident in her ability and so friendly! My dress needed some tricky and time consuming alteration on the mesh sleeves with lace detail, quite a lot taken off the hem, 3 pick up bustle and a small bust alteration, but Sue made it look and sound so easy, knowing full well it wouldnt be! I felt confident and at ease leaving my dress in her capable hands. At the final fitting, my dress fit me like a dream, you would never had known it had been altered.
