About Dave Beese Guitar Tuition
Hi.
My name is Dave Beese and I am a DBS checked GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology, London) qualified professional guitar tutor with over 30 years playing, teaching, writing and recording experience. Based in Taff’s Well, I teach both acoustic and electric versions of the guitar and in all ‘modern’ genres which include Rock | Metal | Blues | Folk | Funk | Indie | Jazz | Reggae | Country | Soul | R&B etc.
I cater for all age groups and from complete beginners to advanced players on a 1:1 basis or in a group situation depending on numbers. Lessons are conducted from my home studio but I’m able to travel for private tuition with prices based on distance, time to travel and fuel. My expert tuition extends to sight reading, TAB reading, theory, harmony, rhythm, technique, improvisation, motivation, practice structure and goal setting.
There are many reasons why someone decides to learn to play the guitar and they normally include:
• Looking for a new hobby.
• Wanting to play songs we love • Improving our current level of playing.
• Joining a band to play in front of people.
• Making a career out of playing the guitar!
Aside from the basics which I insist you need to know, we can tailor the lessons around your particular interest in music, your learning speed (based on the time you have to practice) and what your goals are, even if they include just sitting down and bashing out ‘Smoke on the Water’ every now and again!
For those wishing to study alongside grading, I teach the Rockschool syllabus up to grade VIII with grades VI, VII and VIII carrying UCAS points for those considering university musical education.
Parents of child students are encouraged to sit in on lessons or even share the lessons to learn themselves so as to share the musical journey. I supply all paper notes and lesson aids (except for Rockschool syllabus books which have to be bought) as well as amplification for the lesson but I would advise you to acquire:
• 1mm thick (or thicker) plectrum/s.
• A headstock vibration tuner.
• File for lesson notes.
• Music stand.
• Metronome (or web-based versions can be used).
As we are trying to unleash our creative inner self, lessons are conducted in a laid-back, friendly and totally relaxed atmosphere where enjoyment is key. See my website for further information or you contact me by phone.
My teaching rates are: £13 1/2 Hr | £20 Full Hr.
Practising.
If you're serious about learning to play the guitar, you need to organise a practice schedule which includes 15 minutes of practice every day or as many days as you can manage. It is vital that you start to develop 'muscle memory' from repetitious exercising so it becomes second nature. It is better to practice for 15 minutes every day than 45 minutes every other day as your brain needs to be gently reminded of what's required on a regular basis. Break up and vary your practice sessions. Make them interesting, make them challenging, have a purpose and become bored.
Writing your own Music.
You don't have to be an highly experienced guitar player to write a simple piece of music but you do need to be able to produce basic chords shapes and/or produce rhythmic passages on singe strings. The most basic chords you will learn will enable you to play hundreds of famous songs and you will use them throughout your guitar playing career so learn them well!
