About Costwise

Costwise is an independent UK guide to what home improvements really cost, so you can see a fair price before you ever speak to a salesperson.

Most "get a quote" sites are built to capture your details first and tell you the price later. Costwise works the other way round: every job has an honest from, typical and up-to price band and a free calculator, no sign-up. If you decide you want real quotes, we can match you with vetted local installers, and that, plus the occasional marked affiliate link, is the only way we make money.

How we stay honest.
We publish the date each price was reviewed and only change it when the figures actually move. We never fabricate reviews, ratings or statistics, and our installer and affiliate partners never influence the numbers. Read how we price and our money and disclosure page.

Costwise is a small independent project run by Stephen Evans, who researches and reviews every figure. Spotted a price that looks off?

Where the numbers come from.
We build each price band from current UK supplier and installer pricing, industry cost data and published market figures, then sense-check it against what real jobs of that type actually cost. We show three numbers: a realistic from (a simple job done well), a typical (what most people pay) and an up to (a larger or higher-spec job). They are guide prices, not quotes.

How the calculator works.
The calculator ranges your job from the same data: by option for some jobs (for example loft conversion roof type), or per square metre or unit for others (for example a driveway or windows), then applies a regional multiplier. It runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
