About Compare Your Footprint

Key Services :

Compare Your Footprint™ provides the highest quality carbon footprint software and expertise to achieve your climate ambitions.
One of the most effective ways to become more sustainable is to measure and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions emitted by your organisation. Calculating your entire operation's carbon footprint will help you to set realistic science-based net-zero targets that align with your company and industry.

Carbon footprinting is a powerful tool that enables organisations to assess their environmental impact and develop strategies to reduce their carbon emissions.

By identifying areas of high impact and implementing effective measures to reduce carbon emissions, organisations can not only improve their environmental performance, but also drive cost savings, enhance brand reputation, and increase competitive edge. In this blog, we will delve deeper into the benefits of carbon footprinting and how it can help organisations make a positive impact on people and the planet.

Reducing an organisation’s carbon footprint directly reduces its environmental impact because carbon emissions are a major contributor to climate change and its catastrophic effects on the environment. Reducing your organisation’s carbon footprint reduces the amount of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions that are released into the atmosphere, thereby slowing down the rate of global warming.

Measuring an organisation’s carbon footprint can provide insight into areas within an organisation’s operations that produce the largest amounts of GHG emissions; these are known as carbon hotspots. Identifying these hotspots can help organisations target and prioritise their emissions reduction efforts. Common carbon hotspots include energy use, transportation, supply chain, and waste disposal.

GHG emissions are broken down into three categories: scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol created these scopes as part of its Corporate Accounting Reporting Standard to provide a global framework for measuring and managing GHG emissions for all types of organisations and industries. This framework helps to prevent the “double counting” of emissions in company reporting.

Many countries and regions have regulations in place mandating that organisations measure their carbon footprint to monitor and reduce their GHG emissions.

For the EU, many organisations environmental efforts must align with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSDR).

A broader set of large companies, as well as listed SMEs, will now be required to report on sustainability – approximately 50 000 companies in total. – European Commission, 2023.
All large enterprises that do business in the EU, including those based outside of the EU, will need to disclose their emissions starting in 2024, including scope 3 value chain emissions. In addition, the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) is a mandatory EU legislation that aims to increase the transparency of sustainability matters among financial actors.

For Australia, the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme is a single national framework for reporting organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions, as well as energy production and consumption.

The UK government’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) policy was implemented on 1 April 2019. The regulation requires organisations to publicly report on carbon emissions and energy use and provides an opportunity for organisations to assess their environmental impact and find ways to reduce it.
