Chameleon was established in 2004 by Michelle Clarke-Watkin, who has over 20 years experience in bespoke dressmaking, pattern cutting and design. Michelle is based in Barnstaple, North Devon. Michelle works on a one-to-one basis with clients and has an appointment only policy ensuring that clients receive undivided attention at all times. Chameleon does not have a shop and can therefore not accommodate personal callers without prior appointment. The service offered is bespoke dressmaking and soft furnishings. Alterations can also be undertaken. If you wish to discuss your requirements or make an appointment, please telephone during business hours. Outside of business hours an answering service is available and your call will be returned promptly. Alternatively, please text with any queries for a response within 24 hours.
Chameleon is owned and run by Michelle who has been involved in the clothing industry for many years. Michelle studied at Central School of Fashion in London, where she gained her diploma with distinction. The ethos behind Chameleon is to offer a professional and personal service to each client, whether it be a simple alteration or a bespoke outfit. Attention to the small details matter to me and I am happy to work with clients to their brief to achieve a wonderful 'one-off' garment.
Chameleon offers top quality bespoke clothing, including accessories to match your bridal theme or special outfit. Soft furnishings, clothing alterations, fancy dress and accessories are also undertaken. No job is too small (or too big!) and as Chameleon has an 'Appointment Only' policy, you can be assured of individual, undivided attention. With large projects such as wedding dresses, payment can be made by agreed instalments. Michelle also has contacts with other local businesses who offer bespoke hand embroidery, wedding make-up, hairstyling and all those other important 'essentials' for your special day.
Chameleon does not have a shop and all contact with clients is strictly by appointment only. Please telephone or email with your requirements. Michelle will be happy to discuss your requirements over the phone or make an appointment for you to have a consultation. Business is conducted solely on a 'one-to-one' basis, thus ensuring each client has undivided and uninterrupted attention which you will not find with other local dressmaking studios with an open door policy. Your comfort and time is important to me and I pride myself on offering a distinct and unique service which is client focussed!

I needed a jacket for a wedding, at VERY short notice. Nicola rose to the occasion with glee. The jacket fit perfectly, Nicola is a very skilled lady. It was not cheap but I expected to pay the price for being on the last minute. She also got her friend, Lynne to make a fascinator for me which brought the outfit together. I am very grateful to both of them.

Michele made several dresses and tops for me last year and I was very pleased with the result. She did not have a pattern I just took an old dress in the style I wanted and Michele very cleverly made new ones out of the material I had chosen. The service is very quick and nothing was too much trouble.
