California Shutters

Could not flaw the California Shutters team, fab people and incredibly helpful despite my constant questions and worries! Especially pleased with the arch shutters they look amazing.

My husband took about 2 hours to install shutters to our kitchen and bathroom windows. It would have been quicker however we didn't realise we had to view the instructions online and had no internet at the new house! While we give full 5 stars, would say the wait is a bit long. Next time we would probably spend the extra money and get their fast shipping options.

Staff are always friendly and they help to ensure all orders stay the same (even tho their website and shutter types changed since previous order). Cheap Looking Blinds from California Shutters. I assume the other reviews on here have been written by the company themselves as my blinds took 3 months to arrive and then the most hideous, tacky blinds were what I received. They are not white painted wood as was described but was coated in a plastic laminate and the blinds are so chunky that they look cheap and even when fully open make my room dark and dull. Upsetting as I have very large Victorian windows! As I laid the blind on my window, a guest at my home at the time asked if they were from a caravan firm as they look like caravan blinds. These look far far cheaper than the nearly £500 they cost. The other issue is the design flaw. They have hinges and are intended to be ale to swing open but this is impractical on a large window which wasn't described to me in the initial consultation and so the blinds stick out half my room width when open! California Shutters have blamed my windows for how dark the blinds make my room which is strange as I was happy with the light, airy room for the 3 months I waited for the blinds!They have also said I should have ordered different blinds for my window so they don't stick out which wasn't mentioned to me in the consultation phone call. I have also been told that they are made in a light wood and that is why they look like they do however the wood is only internal. The part you see is all plastic.Moreexpand_more

The Shutters arrived on time (within 8 weeks) and are good quality. They were very easy to fit using the instructions online. Unfortunately some slats arrived split so I had to request some replacements. So far I have waited 9 weeks there is still no sign of them.

A very good website to guide you through the multiple options backed up by excellent advice and communication during the ordering process. The bespoke finished article is worth the wait (for manufacture). The dimensions were spot on, a lovely satin finish (that will be easy to keep clean), installation was easy enough, they look is great and they operate very nicely. If I had to be critical there is one very minor point, the plugs to back fill the pre-drilled fixing holes (in the frame) after installation were a tad too small so I had to put a little tape around them to create a suitable interference fit. Back to the positive, I would highly recommend these shutters and I particularly like that we are now able to have light and privacy thanks to choosing the horizontal bar divider enabling the lower slats to be closed whist the upper slats are open.

Received our 2 plantation shutter kits a few days ago. Everything unpacked and found contents to be complete and in good order. Have now fitted both and am delighted with them. One problem with 1 of the shutters due to an error in the ordering process but this is going to be resolved by the factory. Would definitely purchase these shutters again. Also used the temporary blinds while we waited for the wooden shutters to arrive and found these to be very useful and good value.

We were a little apprehensive to measure and fit ourselfs, But with the help of the measuring and fitting video the whole process was very easy. So much. Cheaper than the quotes we were given, and they look fabulous. We can certainly recommend California Shutters and will be buying again.

I measured, ordered and fitted these DIY Plantation Shutters myself and with absolutely no problem from the California Shutter Company. The California Shutters website has a comprehensive guide to measure your windows and you then choose via an idiot proof online ordered system. You can change the hinges, number of shutters, folding direction, wood, colour etc. Really easily and you get an updated quote immediately. Even when you have ordered online, the company call you back to just check your order. With mine, they added a bottom rail but removed the indent/chamfer so it would sit flush to the window cill. Brilliant! The shutters were very good value and other companies just add their mark up for measuring and fitting. The shutters were delivered very well wrapped and protected with hardboard sheets to either side. To install, you simple joint up the four frame sides with an easy to fit fixer and the fit to your window with screws. Simple! The shutters the are hung by simply sliding the pins into each hinge. All shutters are factory paint finished, very good quality.Moreexpand_more

I had always wanted plantation shutters, and decided to research prices etc. That's when I found The California Company website and I am so glad that I did, The prices were so good that we decided to "go for it" The customer service that we received was outstanding, they went through our order bit by bit making sure we had the right measurements, nothing was too much trouble, we were kept informed every step of the way by email or telephone. When the shutters arrived all the boxes were marked clearly with the left/right and room name etc. And with the help of the instructional videos and Downloads they were so easy to put up, and the quality of the shutters was to a very high standard, and they look just amazing up, I am so very pleased with these shutters and so impressed with the excellent customer service that I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this company to friends relatives and anybody! Thank you all so very much.

Window not oblong but product fits well. No stupid sales hassle form visiting salesmen, did it all myself and I am not a diy fan. Delivery takes about 6 wks from order and arrived ok despite short delay due to xmas chaos. V happy/ would recommend to a friend. Will be back to buy more for another window soon.

I ordered these straight after my new windows were fitted while we decided on how we would dress them in the long term. The service was meant to be on a two day lead time but as it was very close to Christmas, this was delayed by a week. However, I received up to date emails informing me and felt very satisfied by the service. The blinds are just the job: very very easy to put up and use. They are made from a kind of laminated paper so are quite durable. However, creases can easily appear and they really are only temporary blinds. Great for the time being. My only issue being my bay window is 430mm wide at the side (45degree, so faces the road) and it would be most excellent if the company could supply small blinds for these narrow windows. Otherwise, all's well. We will be back to order the plantation shutters.Moreexpand_more

I would have given more stars quite happily but I think new delivery people were used and the delivery went a little awry. Also I had caffe type shutters and the tops were not the best finish otherwise they look pretty good.

An absolutely fantastic product. Easily as good as some of the very expensive high-end shutters I have seen recently. Given the expense involved, I have conducted lots and lots of research and looked at literally hundreds of shutters ranging from DIY shops to boutique specialists, and these are easily comparable to products at the higher end ranges from specialist carpenters. I was telephoned after I had made the order just for safety's sake, to make sure I have measured correctly and also to tell me that my order was successfully placed, something I found a fantastic personal touch given that effectively was an Internet transaction. It gave me real confidence that the product would be of a good standard and I was valued as a customer. I was contacted again with the shutters have been made, and then again when they have been dispatched. Because they're completely customised to your personal requirements, the numerous progress reports made me feel very at ease. When I initially heard how long it would take for the manufacturing process to be completed I was a little disappointed, but when they arrived I realised just how bespoke the products were and the detailing, and level of craftsmanship that goes into making them. I don't know how they would get the product made faster and to the same exacting degree of quality….You can guarantee I will be using this service again for the rest of my house as and when I can afford them….Highly recommended indeed.Moreexpand_more

Pleasantly surprised with how this has worked out. We have an awkward window that opens in many direction so needed something to attach to the window itself. Much better than just a temporary solution. Very pleased!

Ordered these shutters after getting quotes from different companies who were double and even triple the price. The contact I had with The California Shutter staff was excellent and allayed the fears I had about the measurements and quality. They arrived on time and fitting was easy. The quality, which was one of my main fears because of the price, is first class. The reason I bought them was to control the light and outside noise in the rooms. Well done California they are doing the job just fine.

The customer service was great, the company called me to review my online order before it was processed to make sure everything had been measured up and chosen correctly. The shutters arrived on time and were very well packaged. It took my Dad about an hour to install the shutters and he praised the quality of the components. My only tiny criticism would be that the shutters don't sit perfectly flat when they're against the window, but we have an old house and it could be partially down to the wonky windowframe. Really good product - recommended to friends.

Delivery takes too long, installation details weak, product looks really good in situ. Shutters won't stay open which is a bit of a pain.

Love my shutters and have recommended friends who have already ordered there's and I'll be soon purchasing some more. Fab.
