About Ampworks Guitar Amp Repair

Backed by a wealth of experience and formal training in the Audio Electronic Engineering industry and as a performing musician, Keld Ampworks Guitar Amp Repair provides an equipment repair service to local customers throughout the Nottingham, Mansfield, Lincoln and Grantham areas.

Established in 2012 by Electronic Engineer and guitarist Rowan Diskin, Keld Ampworks Guitar Amp Repair is now a 3 person repair team working out of Farndon, on the edge of Newark in Nottinghamshire.

Our client list includes several well known chart topping artists but we also value the work we do for those of you who gig at weekends and play at home for entertainment.

Rowan worked for a well known repairer on Tyneside and as a repairer and salesperson for a major UK music instrument retailer whilst gaining a MEng Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering. He then moved to Nottinghamshire to join the development team for a world leading audio electronic equipment manufacturer and set up Keld Ampworks as a side project borne out of a love of the equipment. In 2018 he left the other manufacturer to focus solely on providing repairs and designs for the music industry Keld Ampworks.

Keld Ampworks provides local musicians with a professional repair service and has a fully equipped workshop. The service allows musicians to get their gear back on the road with complete peace of mind and is designed to be cost effective.

I recently came across some old vintage valves of my late fathers hifi collection. I contacted Rowan at Ampworks and he was able to test all of them and give me a very detailed list of the results. This was done quickly and at a very reasonable price.

I recently asked Keld Ampworks for advice on a modification to my Orange Tiny Terror. A very quick reply to my enquiry from Rowan was received in which he honestly stated that, at present his order books were full. Rowan did however offer to look at the modification to see if it was worthwhile. I accepted the offer and expected a straight forward "yes" or "no" at some point. What I got ( within the day) was a thorough, point by point assessment of each aspect of the mod, the technical theory behind each aspect would or would not make any difference and a fair and non judgemental opinion on each. It's always a indication that someone really knows what they are talking about when they can summarise complex information in a single, easy to understand sentence. Rowan does this and it really help me to understand how my amp works. And all this was done without charge which I think amply demonstrates the passion Rowan has for his work. Would I recommend Keld Ampworks? Unreservedly. It's very clear that Rowan has an incredible knowledge of electronics and the circuit design of amps. It's also clear that he cares about his customers too. Having used a number of repair shops around the country I have never experienced service like this. Now I've found Keld Ampworks I can honestly say I'd sooner wait in line for however long than go somewhere else.Moreexpand_more

I had problems with my Marshall dsl 100 blowing fuses and a reputable guitar store returned my amp having found no faults but still charged £70. When my amp blew another fuse I was a little wary of handing it over to another repair specialist but was given some confidence by the friendly but professional manner of Ampworks phone manner. I handed over my amp and after a thorough chat regarding symptoms I felt confident in leaving my Marshall in the hands of someone who showed a genuine interest in actually fixing my amp. I received an e mail from Ampworks telling me exactly what diagnostic testing was to be carried out and assured of costs from the offset. Once the fault was found I was quoted the full costing inc parts and labour and asked if I wanted to go ahead with the repairs. Valve amps are notorious for being tricky to diagnose and costs can escalate quickly in the wrong hands. Ampworks is a one man show but you will receive an honest, friendly and professional service and not be given false promises. In my case the final costs were a pleasant surprise and exactly as quoted. I now have a fully functional Amp again and would recommend Ampworks to anyone who have problems with their guitar amplification.Moreexpand_more
Response : Thank you for the kind words Stuart, I'm glad you were happy with the service and that the Marshall is still behaving itself!
