There seems to be an expansion towards foam insulation to insulate the walls, floors and roofs of these property's, while this may have a short term benefit long term it does more damage than good.
It allows water to gain access to the timbers through damage to the roof tiles, it allows the timbers to sweat by stopping air flow allowing for the formation of mould to grow it presents both potential damage to the structure of the building as well as a potential health risk to the occupants. By trapping any water getting under the tiles in the structure creating dampness allowing for a high moisture content in the structure creating rot, Most of the time this dampness is mistaken for rising damp and treated accordingly causing thousand of pounds worth of damage to the building.
Most modern tradesmen do not understand older property's and the materials used in there construction all working together to keep them dry they are used to working with modern materials which can cause thousand of pounds worth of damage to older properties just by ignorance rather than bloody mindedness.
