Had an excellent experience learning to drive with Phil, he was supportive and a great teacher. Having some driving experience prior, he was able to build my skillset and more importantly, my confidence on the road. Wouldn’t have been able to pass without him- got 0 faults, a perfect pass. I can't recommend Phil highly enough! When I first started learning, I really struggled with my steering, but Phil was incredibly patient and helped me build my confidence. He explained everything thoroughly, making sure I understood exactly what to do and why. Every lesson was well structured, which made it much easier to improve and track my progress. His support, encouragement, and calm approach helped me pass my driving test first time. He always made me feel relaxed and at ease, even when I was feeling nervous. If you're looking for a supportive, knowledgeable, and patient driving instructor, I would highly recommend Phil!

Unbelievable driving instructor I passed with 1 fault because I learned so much in the car with Phil I was taught well and I’m very confident in driving because of the standards he set he’s friendly he’s your mate in the car he’s there to help and if you want to pass he’s the man for you.

I passed my practical test first time at Hornchurch Test Centre, with Spencer at West School of Motoring! Spencer was always calm, friendly, and patient throughout lessons, which created a comfortable learning environment where I felt confident asking questions and working on areas I wanted to improve. His teaching style was clear and well structured - he not only explained how to do things, but why, which was key in building my understanding and confidence in different driving situations. In the weeks leading up to my test, we focused heavily on my weaker areas through mock tests and detailed tailored feedback, which made me feel much more prepared and helped me pass first time with only 2 minors! What stood out was the emphasis on becoming a confident and competent driver beyond just passing the test. I’d definitely recommend Spencer to anyone looking for a supportive and thorough instructor. My experience with Alexxa at West School of Motoring was extremely disappointing and easily the worst I have had with a driving instructor. During lessons, she was frequently on her phone, which felt unprofessional and distracting. Her teaching style was condescending and unmotivating, often using sarcasm rather than encouragement. Instead of building confidence, it consistently did the opposite. Communication was also an issue. Instructions were often whispered and, combined with her accent, difficult to understand at key moments. When I did not know something such as a show me tell me question, I was made to feel uncomfortable rather than helped. The most concerning issue occurred one week before my test. Despite knowing my test date well in advance, she refused to let me use her car, stating that she did not want a fail on her record. I went on to pass my test regardless, but this decision caused unnecessary stress and cost me over £400 to arrange another car at the last minute. Overall, the lack of professionalism, support, and judgement made this a very poor experience. Learners deserve better guidance during such an important process.Moreexpand_more

I passed my driving test first time at Hornchurch Test Centre with only one minor, and I couldn’t be happier! Spencer has been my instructor since March 2025, and learning with him each week has been a great experience. He has been consistently patient, supportive, and encouraging, always helping me correct my mistakes and become a safer, more confident driver. I’m certain I wouldn’t have achieved my pass without Spencer’s excellent instruction. If anyone is looking for a driving school, I highly recommend Wests School of Motoring. .

Wests Driving school are extremely great ! Their instructors are so kind and have great teaching methods. They don’t only teach you how to pass the test but genuine road skills and knowledge. If you are driving automatic I highly recommend Drita, she is lovely and very patient with you.

Phil taught my daughter, she passed first time with only 2 minors! He really knows his stuff and makes sure his students are completely prepared before taking there test. I know my Daughter is a safe driver thanks to Phil. Thanks for all you hard work .

I had an excellent experience with Wests driving school. I was lucky enough to be under the supervision of Phil West, he made me feel so safe and so confident on the roads. He is an excellent instructor who takes the time to know his learners and understand how they learn. Phil got me to test standard where I was able to pass first time and also secure many life valuable skills along the way. I could not recommend Wests driving school highly enough!

I took up lessons with Phil from Wests school of driving at the beginning of April 2025 with a driving test at Chingford test centre fast approaching in early June. Prior to this I had some driving experience but hadn’t driven for over 6 months so was starting from fresh. Thanks to Phil’s excellent driving skills and teaching methods, he was able to get me where I needed to be in 2 months to be road ready, and pass first time with him. It was a great experience learning with him and he was easy to get along with and was patient when I made mistakes and helped me learn from them. I would highly recommend for new drivers and people returning to lessons.

I couldn’t recommend Dirita enough! From the very first lesson, she created such a comfortable and positive environment that made learning to drive feel so much easier. She’s incredibly supportive and patient, always helping me improve without ever making me feel stressed or overwhelmed. Every lesson was a great experience, and I always felt encouraged and confident. If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your progress and makes learning enjoyable, Dirita is the perfect instructor! Can’t wait for my next lesson x.

Fantastic driving school! Before driving with Phil I had had previous lessons with another driving school but I had no confidence in driving or my manouveres, made loads of mistakes and failed my first driving test. Compared to my previous instructor, Phil was incredibly patient, observant and gave me loads of details and advice which helped me to improve immensely. I get high anxiety when it comes to tests but phil was very supportive and helped me to build confidence in my own skills as a driver. I finally passed today on my second attempt after driving with phil for a year! I couldn't reccomend a better instructor especially for nervous drivers like me. Thank you so much Phil! .

I successfully passed my manual driving test on the first attempt with only three minor faults. My instructor, Spencer, was exceptionally patient and employed a thorough, methodical approach to teaching. Thanks to his guidance, I felt both confident and well-prepared heading into the test.

I learnt with Phil for around a year and passed first time with 1 minor. I knew going in I was in good hands as he’d taught both my siblings over the last 13 years. Phil was really supportive through out and incredibly patient and kind when dealing with my severe anxiety. He knew when to push me and when I needed a little extra time and support, couldn’t recommend him enough. I am now a confident driver and ready to take on the road!

I cannot recommend Wests highly enough and in-particular my instructor Spencer, whose skill, calmness and professionalism enabled me to successfully pass my driving test at Hornchurch at the first time of asking (2 minors). Throughout my entire learning, Spencer’s attention to detail and personable approach really gave me the confidence to go and achieve. Don’t waste time and get booked up with them if you are looking to learn to drive in Romford etc.
