About Oxford Scuba Diving Club
Oxford Scuba Diving Club offers multiple benefits to divers throughout Oxfordshire. Set up in 1956 the club has many years of experience in scuba diving. The club trains its own members, owns an excellent dive boat, goes diving regularly, runs social events and has an active role in the community (including training groups of young people to snorkel). Qualified divers from any agency are especially welcome to join the club. Oxford Scuba Diving Club is a British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) branch - BSAC is the sport's governing body in the UK, and has thousands of branches across the globe, making it the largest diving club on the planet.
With weekly use of a heated pool and experienced instructors, the club enables members to develop skills. BSAC training is designed to prepare divers for the reality of diving in British waters, which although more challenging than tropical conditions is a highly rewarding experience, an activity which thousands enjoy.
The club trains divers from novices upwards. As part of BSAC there are also opportunities to do other courses: to train as an instructor; boat handling; diver coxswain; first aid; emergency rescue management; VHF (ship's) radio; and much more.
Most lectures take place in the clubhouse classroom. Practical training takes place in conditions which suit the lesson and are appropriate to UK diving: the pool, specialised inland sites, and very often in the sea.
