I visited Michael at his Newport practice in November 2012. I had at this time resigned myself to regular chiropody appointments as I had painful corns regularly forming on the soles of my feet. Michael made a thorough investigation and sold me some inserts for my shoes which would redistribute my weight and thus help to alleviate the problem. It is now May 2013 and to date there has been no recurrence of the corns and my feet have been pain free. Thank you Michael.
Michael Franklin has been looking after my feet for about 15 years now. I have slightly twisted toes and never liked cutting my own toenails - the thought of having someone else do this made me cringe! However I was forced to seek help when I developed a very painful corn on one toe. A colleague suggested Michael and I went along to see him with some trepidation. He removed the corn painlessly, then cut my nails and massaged oil into my feet. He also gave advice as to suitable style of shoes. I have had no more corns, and now quite enjoy having my toenails cut!
I first visited Franklin Chiropody at its Cardiff City Centre Surgery in December 2012 to have a look at my painful corns and calluses on the sides and soles/balls of my feet. I have suffered from corns and calluses for a long time due to my long distance running and intensive badminton training regimes. Also, I sustained a bad sprain to my left peroneus longus and left tibialis anterior tendon whilst playing golf in May 2012, which had aggravated the growth of the corns and calluses on my feet during my injury rehabilitation. I have tried, with little success, different kinds of over-the-counter pads and cushions to help alleviate the pain on my feet. I have also resorted to buying larger sized trainers and shoes with the thinking (sadly, erroneously!) that these will reduce the rubbing against the painful corns on my feet during walking and exercising.
I have never used the services of a chiropodist before and hence I was a bit skeptical about what to expect from Franklin Chiropody on my first visit. Also, being an academic specialising in services and management, I am always quite critical and analytical about the quality of services that I receive.
However, my first visit to Franklin Chiropody was a great and comforting experience. Great for me because, not only did Michael removed all my corns and calluses (after a nice and warm foot bath!)professionally, he immediately diagnosed my problem as stemming from the poor (and little) insoles support for my 'unique' feet and the way I wear my shoes. My visit was comforting because Michael analysed that I have slim feet (from the soles to the arches) but broad front parts, due possibly to all the running over the past 20 years. He recommended a tailor-made pair of insoles for my exercises and padding for my shoes. These were fitted on my next visit a week later. Michael is very knowledgeable about foot problems, offers solutions to them, and tries to 'educate' clients on the importance of foot care in a way that they will remember the advice - I now know how to tie shoes laces correctly (!), and I have bought two good pairs of supporting socks that are appropriate for my needs.
I don't suffer from corns and calluses since my first visit to Franklin Chiropody. Importantly, I now use the fitted insoles and padding for my all my shoes as I continue my path to good recovery from my leg injury. I do call on Michael now and again to review my foot care and tweak the insoles/paddings.
I would advise anyone with foot problems to visit a good chiropodist, and do not hesitate to recommend Michael Franklin as the one who will provide a professional and caring service.
I went to Michael recommended by another chiropodist to have some troublesome warts on my hands frozen off. Over-the-counter chemical treatments had been ineffective because of the difficulty of maintaining the regime when ones hands are in constant use.
He steered me away from freezing, shaved the hard skin from the top of the warts (don't look!) and applied tea tree oil from a wart stick - which I then took home with me for re-application.
I was skeptical because the tea tree oil required a similar regime as would have other treatments, and I couldn't keep it up for more than a few days. I decided I was daft not to have got the freezing over and done with - but I was wrong! Even having discontiued the tea tree oil, over a couple of months the warts shrank to nothing and disappeared, and now six months later there is no sign of a return.
Michael recommends taking photos of progress, I didn't and now I can't remember exactly where the warts were.
I took my son to see Michael, as he had a bad case of Verruca's. After a short time with excellent advice and treatment they have all cleared up. Michael is a warm, engaging man, and really puts you at ease. Keep up the good work
I received treatment for a verruca which I had tried to treat at home with a selection of over the counter treatments. The home freezing kits had not worked and after acid patches had made my foot a lot worse I decided to see a professional. My first visit gave me a lot of confidence, the treatment I received was first class, Michael gave me good advice about what to do until my next visit and agreed a plan to treat the verruca. Over the course of 2 more visits Michael froze the affected area and then gave me a product called Wart Stick to finish off the verruca.
I have now been using Wart Stick for 2 weeks and the improvement is amazing. This is great example of the creative approach Michael takes to treatment, the product is herbal and extremely easy to use but very effective. When I first visited Michael I was struggling to put any weight on my right foot because the verruca was in the middle of my heel, I was due to go to Paris in 2 months to do a half marathon and I could not see how I was going to complete my training - never mind run 13 miles. With 3 weeks to go I have actually barely missed any training and am looking forward to the big day. All going well in another few weeks all signs of the verruca will be gone.
I was unsure of what to expect from a chiropodist but was quickly put at ease. I came away walking more comfortably and full of information which, I'm sure, will help me make better choices in footcare particularly and (yes, ladies and gentlemen) life generally.
I have been to Mr Franklin for several years in Newport. He has always been friendly and helpful in giving me advice. And his treatment has always helped me. The condition of my feet has greatly improved. I have recommended him to other people.
I have been a client of Michael's for some years. He has a really caring attitude and visits are really enjoyable. You can expect a good-natured pep-talk to encourage you to look after your feet, with lots of advice about buying shoes, what to wear around the house, how to lace your shoes correctly etc. He would be especially reassuring if you are shy or embarrassed and will put you at your ease. I would send my elderly mum to him without hesitation. Writing this has made me think I will go and book an appointment!
