I approached Ultimate Proof for help with editing my full length novel 'A Glorious Sadness'. I had put so much time and effort into getting it to this point that I thought it deserved the full professional treatment, although I was sceptical that there was much work to do and also concerned that my 'voice' might be lost to an independent editor.
I was very wrong!
I was immediately contacted by Kelly Owen at UP who understood my scepticism and took her time to explain how she viewed her role as 'polishing' what is already there and ensuring that silly mistakes don't drag the reader away from the work. Kelly then went on to read a copy (all 110,000 words) and provide feedback at no cost and with no obligation.
The main aspect of the work done by Kelly and UP that caught me out was the level of personal service. At points I got the impression that Kelly may actually have been more enthusiastic about the project than I was! Kelly was always attentive, she would often answer emails at gone midnight when I was sat up working through edits and by the end of the process our relationship was more that of friends working on something they both care passionately about than a company merely concerned with ensuring there are no typo's.
I can't recommend Ultimate Proof enough. Whatever you need from an editor you will get here, I now have a far better piece than when the process started, the language is perfect, the dialogue in particular is smoother and I have a better idea of where I want to take the series following conversations with Kelly.
I am well under way with the sequel to A Glorious Sadness and I look forward to working with Ultimate Proof to ensure this is also as good as it can be.
