Stagecoach Leighton Buzzard - Drama School

Opened in 2002, Stagecoach Leighton Buzzard, part of the nationwide network of part-time theatre arts schools, has many years of experience in the Theatre Arts sector. The focus is on providing part-time drama, dance and singing classes to young people aged 4-16 throughout the local area. There are no auditions, and students of all abilities are welcomed. The school runs in term-time on Saturdays in Cedars Upper School, Leighton Buzzard.

With experienced staff and excellent teaching spaces, the school is able to offer a structured, fun-filled learning environment to the students. The ethos of the school is to offer a solid base of theatre skills, which also helps to improve self-confidence, communication skills and creativity, thus enabling the students to grow into rounded individuals, equipped with wonderful life skills. Shy children become more outgoing, lively ones learn to channel their energy. Many parents report increased ability at school, which they see as a direct result of the confidence their children have gained.

The Principal of the school, Wendy Ashman, is a former nurse who has spent many years involved in theatrical productions, both on stage and off. She has seen her own two children benefit enormously from attending theatre skills classes - one is at university studying Performing Arts, the other is a young actor. All six teachers at Stagecoach Leighton Buzzard are motivated by a desire to instill in youngsters the passion they themselves have for their subjects. They have performance backgrounds, with either formal qualifications or years of experience in the business. Parents are invited in twice a year, usually at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms. Written reports on each student are issued in December and July. Every student (in the three hour schools) receives a copy of Young Performer, a specialist Performing Arts magazine, twice a term. In addition there are medals for long attendance, plus an annual Achievement Award given to a student who has shown consistent effort and a great attitude in each of the three classes.
