Spot-on Subbing is an editorial agency providing high quality copy/sub-editing, writing and proofreading services to clients all over the world. The company was established in 2007 and the founder, Frances Penwill-Cook, has over ten years' sub-editing and proofreading experience on various newspapers and magazines - in both online and print publishing.
Just to clarify one point before continuing, on FreeIndex, Spot-on Subbing is listed as 'Spot on Subbing', this is because the 'company' text field in the system will not allow hyphens, so Spot-on Subbing's name could not be presented correctly (as an editorial agency specialising in sub/copy-editing this is very frustrating and not good advertising for the company, so it was necessary to point it out).
All work undertaken by Spot-on Subbing is carried out by Frances Penwill-Cook. Nothing is outsourced so she can be certain that every sentence and word is checked at least three times before sending it back to you.
Frances graduated with a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in English in 1997 and then took a postgraduate diploma in secretarial and administrative procedures - so she is super organised. She also has RSAs in typing, shorthand and audio transcription.
After subbing various pharmaceutical catalogues straight after graduation, her first publishing job was in 1998 on her local paper, The Nottingham Evening Post.
After discovering an ever-increasing passion for word length, sentence flow and grammar, she headed down to London to take her first staff sub-editor position on a magazine.
After working in London for ten years, in 2008 she bought a house in France and now spends most of her time running Spot-on Subbing from her office near the Lot valley. She works for clients all over the world.
Spot-on Subbing offers a highly-personalised sub/copy-editing, proofreading and writing service to clients. Standard rates are, of course, advertised on the site, but Frances is happy to negotiate in this economic downturn - so clients can be proud of their copy and within their budget.
Communication with Spot-on Subbing can be via the telephone, email, content management systems, Skype or instant messaging - whatever is preferred by the client.
Frances loves producing copy to be proud of. So, whether your copy is 'almost there' or whether it's awkward and lengthy and needs 'quite a bit of work' you'll receive back beautifully flowing, grammatically correct, well-written pieces in house style and to length - and to deadline (no matter how tight).
Frances Penwill-Cook has worked on a wide range of print and online publications and held a variety of editorial positions in the magazine, newspaper and online publishing industries, such as sub-editor, editor and writer.
Current, long-term clients include SPG Media (www.spgmedia.com, which receives over 1. 6 million visitors each month to its 28 B2B online publications) and theFrenchPaper, a national English-language newspaper in France.
Previous clients of Frances's sub/copy-editing service include the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Newtrade Publishing and The Wealth Collection magazine. Examples of completed and published work are available in the 'PhotoBook' section.
