I moved to Reading from London and I felt very lonely as I had effectively lost a very close group of friends. Joining Spice was a huge step for me, but I had nothing to lose. I preferred the social activities and soon found that I had everything to gain... wonderful new friends and an excellent knowledge of local eating establishments! I also enjoyed the Summer walks and I spent a great weekend in Prague.
Everyone is so warm and friendly, as we all join Spice for similar reasons. I know live out of the Spice area, but I keep in contact with the very good life long friends I made.
I can't recommend Spice enough, you have nothing to lose!
There are so many events that Spice put on during the week, a person can not do them all. From the adventure thrill seekers to the dinners shuffles, Spice cathers for all. It can boost your confidence and get you out of your comfort zone, by trying something new. Also you will meet like minded people doing the same activies. They also run various holidays, for example walking and beach holidays, to sailing down the Nile and the Inca Trail. I would recomend Spice to others, and have done
Been a member of Spice for the last 5 years and has changed my social life beyond my wildest dreams. Met and incredible group of very like-minded people, who have now become great friends and will be for life.
Had some absolutely amazing experiences and done some truly fabulous and crazy activities. Certainly helped me to get my new job a couple of months ago, when the first question at interview was "Where DO do you do all these activities?"
Always great to rock back into work on a Monday morning just having had THE most amazing weekend away. And then you can avoid the energy vampires / mood hoovers, when you share tales of your Spice adventure.
For the price of a cup of coffee each week, you can become a member. Over 100 events take place each month, you are spoilt for choice. You can also go along for the 1st couple of events as a non-member to check it out, plus bring a friend along. Go check it out. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. You have NOTHING to lose, but everything to gain.
I joined Thames Valley Spice in December 07. I joined primarily to get to know more people, which I did and many of them have become close friends. In the process I found that it offers a huge variety of events so there is plenty to challenge or entertain. I would recommend doing a mixture though and you will do things you would not otherwise have done and become friends with people who you would not otherwise have met.
If there is something you want to do, Spice is the place to book it. Since joining Spice my social life has exploded and I have explanded my circle of friends. The staff are friendly and helpful and open to suggestions from members. I have never regretted joining Spice and encourage anyone considering it to bite the bullet and join.
I joined Spice to play basketball. Almost immediately that opened doors to a multitude of unexpected adventures.
Spice creates opportunities. It is then up to you.
For me the highlights have been : abseiling, guided walk of Reading Town Centre (!), ski-ing, real tennis, lots of dancing, monday night sport ( hockey, badminton, basketball ).
Spice offers a huge range of activities from meals, visits to pubs and holidays to motorised beer kegs, CSI weekends and walking with wolves. The office staff are always encouraging and helpful in explaining just what an event entails and the other members are very welcoming. The only problem is deciding what event to do next. My highlight was cuddling a baby panda on holiday in China. Deciding to join Spice has been one of my best decisions.
I joined Spice 2 years ago to meet people in my local area and make more friends my own age, it also allowed me to try out restaurants in the Oxford area that I would never have gone to on my own. The group also offers excellent holidays with no single supplement charges, so I finally got to try out skiing last year. The service provided to me as a member has always been excellent and it feels more like a family than a business!
