Lorenzo - Musicians

Lorenzo is a singer / songwriter of the alternative rock genre. He has been playing guitar all his life and has been gigging since 2007, mainly around Brighton and Essex. Lorenzo's music is complex in structure, yet energetic, melodic and lyrical (both funny and serious).

Lorenzo has a degree in Mathematics. Lorenzo has a network of fans, situated around Brighton and Essex.

I was lucky enough to see Lorenzo perform live in Brighton July '07. I went on the recommendation of a friend without having heard his songs. What I heard was exceptional and has stayed with me ever since.

There were a number of young singers and singer/ songwriters on that night and the atmosphere was lively with lots of students celebrating end of term - more interested in the booze than the entertainment. However Lorenzo's presence on stage is extraordinary.

He opened his set with a sizzling cover of Stevie's 'Superstition' and the hubbub dropped away. His voice seemed to go where he wanted, he was rhythmic and dancy - there's something wild and surprising in the man - and by the end he had the audience in the palm of his hand.

He speaks in between numbers chatting about how he came to write the songs and he's funny and charming and vulnerable. I particularly remember a fast and furious number about getting frustrated on a call to a call centre ('I've been lied to by a machine) and another he'd just completed about his landlady.

When he plays something else takes hold. His lyrics and melodies and rhythms are to die for. His guitar playing so full-on with all sorts of surprising twists and turns. His voice is sweet and wild by turn. I fell in love and I look forward to his first album.

Don't miss out. He's that rare thing, the genuine article. I'm going to enjoy watching him climb to the top.
