London Atelier of Representational Art - Art CourseThe London Atelier of Representational Art principal aim is to teach the most fundamentally important aspects of drawing, painting and sculpture. It is their belief that by giving students rigorous training in accurate observation, they can best master expression in the human form. The emphasis of the syllabus is given to working directly from the model using a specific approach designed to teach essential concepts of proportion, line, gesture, form and light.
LARA is to run three ten week terms over the next year in between which they will also run one or two week courses. The minimum attendance period is one week.
All levels are welcome.
Drawing
The foundation of the syllabus is in two parts.
Line drawing teaches proportion, gesture and correct shapes using sight size and comparative measurements.
Tonal drawing focuses on monochromatic reduction of a plaster cast into three sets of values:light to middle to dark.
Painting
A continuation of mass drawing with the addition of colour. Working from model and still life students learn colour mixing, paint application achieving textures and atmosphere. Sculpture
Students visualise proportion, contour and silhouette alongside anatomical observation and armature understanding.
