John Phillips Concert Tuner / Technician is long established (since 1965), offering a professional service to clients throughout the whole of the North East of England and the Scottish Borders. The business is located in Blaydon Burn, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Trading began in 1965. The business has decades of experience in tuning and maintaining every type of piano, from the most modest beginner's upright, through the entire range, to the magnificent Steinway Model D, and Bosendorfer Imperial concert grands.
Specialising in extremely high quality work, and having trained for 5 years as an apprentice tuner/technician with a highly respected London company, work began 'on the road' in 1970 in the North East of England and the Borders of Scotland. Registered as a member of the Pianoforte Tuners' Association, one of only two in this area.
The services offered are always of the highest quality, from general private household tuning and repairs, through to the more exacting skills of being able to prepare Steinway and Bosendorfer concert grands for performances given by the world's finest classically trained pianists and orchestras.
Services include:
Tuning, toning, regulation, re-stringing , partial and full rebuilds, re-covering of keys.
Supply of stools, upright and grand covers, felts, springs, damp chasers, humidifiers etc.
Covering the whole of the North East of England.

The company is run entirely by John Phillips, and does not subcontract work out.

John said he had never seen a piano so out of tune and concluded that someone had tried to tune it themselves and obviously made a complete mess of it. With tremendous skill and patience John managed to get it back in tune for me and it now sounds amazing. John is a really nice guy and he is obviously very skilled with a vast amount of experience. I can't recommend him highly enough.
