My experience with Johanna Hehir was an overall success. My big kudos goes to Caroline who was incredibly patient with me, knowledgeable on all fronts, and really fun. My family and bridesmaids were equally happy upon coming into the store and engaging her. The shop is lovely and has a cared for atmosphere, which is very important to a bride! I can't thank you enough for making my day incredibly special - the dress was perfect.
I recently purchased a wedding dress from Johanna Hehir on Chiltern Street. I first came across this particular designer while browsing for dresses on the internet. I thought I wouldn't be able to find a design I liked until I found Johanna's site. Her dresses looked amazing and when I booked an appointment to try some on I was not disappointed. I mainly dealt with Caroline and Eva who were extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I had three fittings and my dress was fitted to perfection. Throughout the process Caroline and Eva managed to keep me calm and made the whole experience very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend!
I bought my wedding dress from Johanna Hehir and I couldn't have been more pleased with it.
The team & Paul were very open to making changes on the designs to make it work for me - for example I wanted a longer train and a few other alterations.
I also appreciated that they didn't charge for an appointment time unlike many of the equivalent London bridal shops.
I especially found Caroline to be a real asset to the store, she's really helpful, friendly and has a great eye for what looks best.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Johanna Hehir to other brides.
I had an fantastic experience at Johanna Hehir! We only had a very short space of time to organise our wedding, just 4 months, and I couldn’t find a dress I liked anywhere… until I went to JH. Not only did I find the perfect dress but the staff were all so friendly, helpful and supportive. They made the whole dress-shopping experience a real pleasure as they were very enthusiastic and excited for you as a bride-to-be; it really showed that they love what they do, and this is something I found sorely lacking at many other shops I'd been to. Their dresses are simply stunning, and are worth every penny. Even though there were only a few months to go before my Big Day, Paul suggested some customisations for my chosen dress, which I was really impressed by, and my dress was ready in plenty of time, so there was no stress there at all. These customisations made my dress even more stunning- it was everything I’d been looking for! It goes to show that the JH team really will go that extra mile to make you the dress of your dreams- even at short notice! Very highly recommended indeed!!!
I was really impressed with my experience at Johanna Hehir. I had gone to MANY shops and been disappointed by the styles I had found elsewhere. I really enjoyed my initial visit to Johanna Hehir, and appreciated that they had an appointment policy so that I had an assistant focused on helping me rather than feeling like part of a crowd.
The quality of the dresses is a very high standard and given the quality, they are good value for money. I went for the made to measure option and my dress fit very well.
Having been to the shop at least half a dozen times throughout the process, I was always greeted by friendly and professional staff. Eva in particular helped guide me through the whole process, and she was very supportive throughout. I never felt the staff were snobby (as per other reviews). This is a designer shop, and they focus on the quality of the designs and dresses.
Thanks to everyone at Johanna Hehir for helping me have a wonderful wedding day. I absolutely loved my dress, and the process of working with Johanna Hehir was very good. I highly recommend them.
I dreaded trying on wedding dresses, but from the moment I walked into Johanna Hehir on Chiltern Street I felt at ease - the sales assistant was friendly and laid back, which is just what I needed. I was handed a number of catalogues to pick out the styles I liked, and went through my budget with Caroline. The best thing about Johanna Hehir is their range of styles - they have a bit of everything: modern gowns, classic A-line and simple gowns. I tried on a number of different styles which was so helpful, and I ended up buying the first dress I tried on. I enjoyed going to the three fitting appointments, and the staff worked with me to make very minor alterations I requested at no extra cost. I was delighted with the dress - the quality fabrics used were so lovely to wear, and it fitted absolutely perfectly.
I had the most fantastic experience at Johanna Hehir and would recommend them to any bride! When I walked into Johanna Hehir I had serious bridal fatigue having visited several bridal boutiques which were ridiculously overpriced and understaffed. The dresses in Johanna Hehir are beautiful and their pricing very reasonable, which is what originally attracted me to them - however, what made the experience really special was the people that work there -they are just lovely and I always felt that they had time to talk through things and to give me advice. They genuinely seem to enjoy what they do and their years of experience really show. There are very few bridal boutiques where you get the "personal" experience but Johanna Hehir is very much one of them. Until I got to Johanna Hehir I had found the whole dress experience exhausting, but that all disappeared when I decided to go with Johanna Hehir, and instead could worry about all the other millions of things a bride needs to think about!!
A fantastic service that left me with a perfectly fitting dress that made me feel the best I have ever looked in my whole life. All wedding dresses are designed to do this but it wasn't just me that thought this one was exceptional - everyone on the day did! Would recommend them to any bride looking for a dress with that extra something special and classy!
I have not yet purchased my dress from Johanna Hehir but am almost definite that I am going to after a fantastic experience there yesterday. The dresses are stunning, Eva was patient, professional and gave me great advice and Paul was such a character and obviously really knew his stuff. Having been in a number of shops I can't think of anywhere I'd rather get my dress from and I look forward to going through the process with this fabulous group of people.
The service that I have received has been appalling. I found that they consistently talked over me and it seems that I am not allowed to have my own opinions.
Company response : We have had a number of negative reviews recently which give the impression that Johanna Hehir does not care about customer service and is very money orientated. In our defence, we have been designing, manufacturing and retailing wedding dresses and eveningwear for the past twenty years and as the hundreds of positive reviews we continue to receive each year show, the vast majority of our brides, are more than satisfied with the quality of their dresses and the service they have received from Johanna Hehir.
Regrettably there will always be a small minority of brides who for a number of reasons (as outlined below) feel that they have not been treated well or had the "bridal experience" they expected.
Some brides have complained about our appointments policy. At Johanna Hehir, we have a much more comprehensive range of styles than the average bridal boutique and our reputation for styling advice is such that we have a waiting list, particularly for Saturday appointments. For this reason we also have a 48hr cancellation policy for bridal appointments. This is to deter brides from failing to show for their appointments, thereby depriving other brides of the booking, which is only fair given that we are allocating a trained stylist and an hour of company time for free.
We appreciate that when brides first come to try on dresses that they do not always know what they want, but we always do our best to try and advise them within the allocated time. Some brides who have booked Saturday appointments to try on dresses have complained about "feeling rushed" but if we cannot meet the bride's requirements or the allocated time is up, we need to finish the appointment or the next bride will complain that she is being kept waiting.
Others have complained that we are "money orientated". We have detailed information about our price range and services on our website. We do not want to waste the bride’s time by showing them gowns outside their budget, so before the appointment, (and amongst other questions) we ask the bride "what price she is not comfortable spending over?" which is not an unreasonable question.
We have dresses from £500 to £5000. It is obviously in our interests to try to find a style that flatters the bride and is within her budget. However this is not always possible, particularly if the bride is being less than honest with us, about what she is prepared to spend on her dress.
There is no obligation on the bride to purchase a gown from Johanna Hehir, but the stylists at Johanna Hehir feel it is only fair that they are given sufficient information to be able to advise the bride in a professional manner. If it was all about the money, we would not be offering free appointments, as it costs Johanna Hehir for every bride we see. Unfortunately, a few brides fail to appreciate our appointments policy and have accused us of being “snobby” on internet reviews.
We have also had a few brides complaining about their dresses and the service they have received when ordering made to measure dresses. We make it very clear when the bride first orders her dress and it is stated clearly on her order (and on our website) that the made to measure price includes three fittings. We also advise brides that if they intend to lose weight that they should achieve this by their second fitting to avoid additional cost and extra fittings. Weight loss or gain after the 2nd fitting, somewhat defeats the whole point of made to measure and can involve remaking the dress, which is not a simple or quick process.
But we appreciate that this is sometimes unavoidable and unintentional on the part of the bride, particularly if she becomes quite stressed leading up to the wedding. We are always prepared to do the extra work and schedule additional fittings to get the dress to fit correctly, however the bride must accept that the extra work has to be costed separately and is in addition to the original made to measure price. Most brides accept responsibility for their weight loss/gain and are prepared to pay the extra to have the dress fitting correctly, but regrettably there will always be a minority of brides who strongly object to any question of weight loss/gain and expect all extra work to be included at the original price.
We recently had a bride who complained about her dress not being finished and ready to collect at her third fitting, even though this was scheduled for several weeks before her wedding. Where possible we try to have the dress finished for the 3rd fitting, but we can never guarantee that it will be ready to collect at the 3rd fitting, as there are often minor finishing details and final adjustments (like hooking up trains) and hand finishing which may need to be completed before collection.
Occasionally we have brides who confuse made to measure with bespoke (also explained on our website) and mistakenly believe that they have the right to demand design changes or additional work which is over and above the specification agreed at the time of ordering.
We always try to accommodate the bride’s demands where possible. But once again it is unfair to expect us to cover the additional work and fittings in the original price. We do not like having to charge brides extra and more often than not we will bear most of the cost ourselves, provided the bride is prepared to be reasonable with us. But brides who imagine that they can deny or bully us into submission are mistaken. Adopting an aggressive and demanding attitude with the people who have designed and are manufacturing your wedding dress, is not a good strategy to win them over.
