All consultations are confidential. An initial phone call should answer any questions. First meetings are without obligation on either side, a chance to explore issues and identify expectations. Counsellor and client usually have enough information to decide whether to work together, and if so generally arrange up to six sessions. By the fourth it is clear whether to continue or to end in two weeks. Whether the problems involve life events such as divorce or bereavement, or are to do with self-esteem, anger, communication or relationships, counsellors listen without judgement and with empathy.
