People seek counsellors for many reasons. Anxiety, depression, the experience of a traumatic event or difficulties in a relationship. A lack of purpose in life or feeling that they are not worth much. Many, perhaps most, people encounter difficulties of these or similar sorts in the course of life, yet it is not always possible to share them with family, friends or colleagues. Counselling provides a safe space in which to explore the underlying causes of the emotional distress being experienced and to be helped to discover a way forward into a more hopeful future.
Ben Whitworth has a Diploma in Counselling from the University of Gloucestershire, and over twenty years' experince in pastoral work. He has worked as counsellor for Network Counselling in Bristol for four years. He is a Member of the British Assoc. For Counselling and Psychotherapy, and subject to their ethical framework and professional conduct code. His work is regularly supervised and he is involved in ongoing professional development. A preliminary meeting will be arranged in which the client and counsellor jointly decide whether their working together seems, potentially, to be the right way ahead. Counselling session lasts up to an hour and take place usually at weekly intervals. Some issues can be resolved in a few sessions, others take longer. Clients are not limited in the number of sessions they can come for.
