4.7 out of 5 | I stayed there when I came to visit Alnwick when looking for a place to live. Leo's a lovely guy who was only too happy to help me out. I arrived with no booking and he had no problem with putting me up.
I've since decided to live in Alnwick and when friends come to visit, they always stay there. One friend didn't ask me first and ended up choosing there anyway.
It's spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable and surprisingly spacious - you wouldn't think it from outside, but it's much larger than it looks.
There's even little touches like iPod docks in all the rooms. It's stuff like that that makes Tate House just lovely to stay in.
My only peeve is that it's better than my house...Jonathan Justice - 9 Jan 2010 |
5.0 out of 5 | Having recently stayed at Tate House for the second time and found it to be as excellent as we remembered, and having read some of the negative and unkind comments online and in the visitors' book, I would like to say that in our opinion Tate House is without a doubt one of the best B&Bs anyone could possibly wish for. It's spotlessly clean, beautifully and tastefully decorated throughout and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and likeable host. The rooms are comfortable and restful, breakfasts are plentiful, punctual, cooked to perfection, and really set you up for a day's sightseeing, for which you don't need even to venture very far as Tate House is well placed for Alnwick Castle and Gardens, and the brilliant Barter Bookshop. We can't praise Tate House highly enough and are very much looking forward to visiting again as soon as possible. Dot Queen - 30 Aug 2009 |
4.0 out of 5 | We had three nights at this guest house, which has immaculate, modern comfortable and stylish decor. Leo is a fascinating and charming host once you work out that you should take much of what he says with a big pinch of salt as he loves to joke and provoke in fun!! Just give as good as you get and you'll have a great time. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, basically whatever you want provided he knows in advance so he can get things in. We throughly enjoyed our stay in Alnwick and Northumberland which have much to offer. The castle and gardens, the Farne Islands, Cragside stately home, the walk from Seahouses to Dunstanburgh Castle and the scenery in the Northumberland National Park were all highlights. The indian restaurant in Alnwick was excellent, sorry can't remember the name. Christopher Seaborn - 6 Jul 2009 |
2.7 out of 5 | Upon arrival could not help noticing an obsessive tendency to cleanliness (written out notes saying take off your shoes, attached to doors and windows) place was immaculate, however when asked about the balcony advertised and confirmed in the booking we were told there was not one! my partner and i were looking forward to sitting out with a glass of wine and were unable to do so!!!the morning greeting went as such''morning, what do you want to drink''. Fresh bedding was left next to our room door in the morning which gave the impression he just wanted us out asap, again great accomadation but very lacking in friendliness!!!. | | Company Response : It's my number one priority to provide my guests with a fresh and clean home on their arrival. We only have one notice displayed on the porch door explaining to "take off your shoes during the bad weather", not anywhere else and NOT on any windows whatsoever! We do in fact have a "balcony" on the South side and on the top floor which was for the use of bedroom 3's guests, however its now unavailable for any guest use. May I also point out that is was a "cold and wet" day on their arrival, hardly a day for sitting out on the balcony with a glass of wine! Was it not you initial intentions to "smoke" on the balcony, as every half hour during your stay you went outside the front door to smoke?
I always greet my guests with a "good morning", Im not sure as to what else I should be saying first thing in the mornings to my guests? The fresh bedding also mentioned was placed outside the office which is on a different landing to bedroom3, it was simply drooped off here to get it out of the kitchen and to store away later. Im unsure why you would comment on this instance in the first place.
Thank you to all my other guest for their lovely comments.

4.7 out of 5 | This is genuinely the best bed and breakfast i have ever stayed in. Myself and my girlfriend stayed here in May. It was the bank holiday weekend and everywhere else we had tried told us that it was not possible to book for one night. When i spoke to the owner of Tate House not only was he more than happy to accommodate us for one night he was also extremely helpful about telling me about the recommended restaurants. When we arrived we couldn't believe how clean it was, the rooms were spacious and spotless and the styling was crisp and modern. The breakfast the next morning was by far the best i have had at a guest house. I would recommend this guest house to everyone as i believe you will not be disappointed. My only single criticism the entire time we were there would be the owner should probably have his rules on a sheet of paper instead of telling you on arrival. He has a keen eye for detail and coupled with being told rules on arrival you sometimes feel you are making a mess which is slightly uncomfortable. Ivan Blackwell - 10 Jun 2009 |
4.0 out of 5 | It was a fantastic stay at Tate House - from location all the way to facilities in the room! It's everything one could ask for, and even more! Leo is very friendly and helpful - the whole accommodation is spotlessly clean and the bed is the most comfortable I've slept in!Very high standard B&B and I would definitely recommend it to anyone and I'll certainly come back again! Thanks again, Leo! Peggie Chan - 14 May 2009 |
4.3 out of 5 | A very enjoyable stay in exceptionally clean, tastefully appointed accommodation - it even has off street parking! A welcoming host and a substantial, well presented breakfast - what more could you ask for!!! Steve and Janice Taylor - 12 May 2009 |
5.0 out of 5 | A warm welcome, comfortable rooms immaculately decorated throughout and spotless. Add to that a good breakfast and what more could you want? Rita Lawson - 22 Apr 2009 |
4.7 out of 5 | We had been to a wedding in Scotland and stayed just one night on our way home to the South Coast. Having seen the accommodation on the internet the three bedded room did not disappoint having exceptionally comfy beds. Our hosts recommendation of Blackmores Restaurant for our evening meal was of a high standard and being directly across the busy main road would have been ideal if the weather had been wet. The traffic on the road was not a problem as we did not hear it. Breakfast was served promptly at 8.00 a requested and we were on our way home well before 9.00. Don't hesitate about booking this one! 4.0 out of 5 | We just had a 4 night stay in Tate House B&B. I found the owner very welcoming and friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. The rooms are very well furnished, decorated and clean, as goes for the whole house. Breakfast was well presented and there was a good variety. The owner expects everyone to treat his house as it was their own, which anyone would, so I had no problems with 1 or 2 house rules which helped to keep the place clean and hygienic. We would definitely stay again and have no problem recommending Tate House to anyone. Good value for money Ron Turner - 28 Mar 2009 |
