1.0 out of 5 | We live on the same street as the Ginger Pig which was fantastic for both food and service the first few times we went and lived up to the original of this chain, The Ginger Man. However we have now had 2 poor meals at the Ginger Pig both poorly seasoned and incorporating low quality produce, and the service has declined as well. We thought this may be due to the owner expanding his empire too quickly and moving his best staff to the new Ginger Fox. Anyway we headed there this Sunday to check it out. The service was atrocious. No-one on the floor seemed to be in charge and the staff were just wondering around in a daze. They do not anticipate customer needs they just react when you finally get there attention. We didnt even get a menu without asking and had to ask for plates to be cleared after each course. It took us over 2hrs 30mins to have 2 courses and we finally gave up after waiting 20 mins for our main dishes to be cleared and get a dessert menu. The food unfortunately was of average quality but not of average value. £15 for a Sunday Roast. There are sooo many better places in Sussex offering better food and lower prices. The Ginger brand has been dining off reputation for a while now and they have forgotten what made them successful to start with - excellent food and excellent service from informed experienced front of house employees . Check it out for yourself but be prepared for disappointment and a long wait. Jamie Spence - 28 Sep 2008 |
5.0 out of 5 | We went last Saturday and had a fantastic evening - food great, superb winelist (had Gruener Veltiner) and very kind service! We'll be back! |
4.0 out of 5 | Three of us arrived without a booking at 8.30 pm. Although it was very busy, we were quickly offered a table and served an excellent Steak & Kidney pie (about £8, most main courses around £15) within 30 minutes. Very good food and beer. (One of our party runs a busy food/wine bar in Edinburgh) We ate in local pubs and restaurants arround Hurstpierpoint all week and the Ginger Fox was not the cheapest, but was by far the best. Definitely going back. |
2.0 out of 5 | My partner took me to the Ginger Fox as a birthday treat. The atmosphere and service were clinical and efficient rather than warm and friendly. I had pate de fois to start which was excellent. However I was bitterly disappointed with my main course, rib-eye steak and a portion of chips smaller that I would give my 12 year old son, all for the princely sum of £16.00. That was it, no side dish, no salad and no relishes..for those it was an extra £2.50 each. My partner had confit of duck on a bed of celeriac and of course side dishes were extra. Finally, his pudding of chocolate tart was bigger than his main course. We went there expecting something special, what we got was uninspiring, unoriginal and far too expensive. david - 20 Apr 2008 |
