Russell Personnel and Training is the human resources department for businesses who don’t need a full time HR Manager, but do want practical guidance and support in the field of HR and employment law.

The Russell Personnel team work with clients, face-to-face as part of their management team. Building strong working relationships with managers and staff, the team provides knowledge, advice and expertise appropriate to the client’s business.

Russell Personnel and Training ensures that their clients’ business is legally compliant, organisationally effective and performance is operating at the optimum level.

Law on the Move

Employment law changes so rapidly these days that it’s almost impossible to stay up to date.

To help make it a little easier Russell Personnel and Training have created Law on the Move, enabling managers to listen to developments in employment law via an audio CD or MP3 download which they can load on to an ipod.

Each quarter the CD reviews what’s been happening in employment law and what’s in the pipeline and take listeners through the practical implications for their business. Each update lasts an hour and is set out in three or four sections for ease of listening and understanding. Delivered in a no-nonsense, practical and informal style listeners are able to update their employment law knowledge as they drive, travel, exercise or even as they do their supermarket shopping.

Kate Russell BA (Hons), Barrister, MA

Kate studied business law, qualified as a barrister and later worked in industry. She has experience as an operations manager and as a supplier of corporate HR and training in the manufacturing, distribution and services sectors. She started Russell Personnel and Training in 1998 and now uses her extensive knowledge of employment law and practical skills to advise small and medium sized businesses on HR issues. One of her proudest achievements is that in nine years of helping employers manage their businesses, there has only been one tribunal case and the employer won it by a unanimous panel decision.

Kate specialises in the delivery of extremely practical employment law awareness training. Her unusual combination of legal background, direct line management experience and hands-on HR skills, enable Kate to present the stringent requirements of the law balanced against the realities of working life. She completed an MA in Human Resource Management.

Managing people is one of the most difficult things to get right. The American writer Warren Bennis summed it up pretty accurately when he said “managing people is like herding cats”.
