These Visit Britain 5 Star rated self catering cottages in the Lake District are self contained within a 1 acre garden. There is a tennis court, a hamper on arrival and fell walking direct from the door on the private bridle path.

Located between Kendal and Windermere it takes less than 15 minutes to drive to the centre of The Lake District. However the cottages are secluded and peaceful and benefit from being off the beaten track.

Both cottages sleep 2 and are fitted out to a high specification including free broadband Wi-Fi internet connections.

Mirefoot Cottages are open for business from 9:00 to 5:30 every day of the week.

We stayed at the Old Grain Store cottage which is finished to a very high spec. The property is very well equipped in every room and the extra little touches were very much appreciated like the welcome food hamper and lovely bubble bath. We also opted for the gourmet hamper, the contents of which were delicious. The location is only 15 minutes from the M6 and yet on arrival you feel like miles from anywhere. There are numerous footpaths in the area and so you can walk for miles without needing to use the car, equally the rest of the Lakes is very accessible. The Curwen's are excellent hosts and booked a restaurant and taxi on our behalf, which really helped the weekend run smoothly.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in a lovely cottage set in exceptional gardens. The location is so peaceful yet within easy reach of Kendal and Windermere. Our English springer spaniel, Penny thoroughly enjoyed the company of Purdey, the resident labrador. Thank you Kate and Eldred for creating such an ideal retreat for a relaxing break - we will be back!

Absolutely perfect, the cottage had everything we needed, very romantic, quiet and peaceful, lovely gardens. Great area for walks, located right in between kendal and windermere. Our Jack Russell had a great time too! Highly recommend.

The cottage was as good as my cottage at home, which in effect is what I am after when I hire a cottage for a week.

The standard was excellent with a superb bathroom, well equipped kitchen and was conveniently placed for exploring the southern lakes.

We stayed for a week in the Old Grainstore at Mirefoot Cottages and could not have been more impressed with the standard of the accommodation, the gardens, and its situation. If you are looking for a comfortable and relaxing break in a quiet location with easy access to the Lake District (both by car and train) then I would highly recommend going to Mirefoot Cottages.

A 4 night stay in June 2007 in The Old Shippon. Great quality, comfortable accommodation with everything you would need for a lovely stay- really a home from home. Lovely welcome hamper. Nice location, away from it all and great gardens - especially great for dog guests. I would be happy to recommend Mirefoot to friends and family. Thanks for a great stay!

We arrived at 4pm. The gourmet hamper greeted us and we tucked in. From that moment on the whole week was perfect. Everything was as advertised and the free WiFi was an added bonus.

We needn't have used the car if we hadn't wanted to.

What a fabulous week we had in the Lake district staying at Mirefoot. Our cottage was beautiful, set away from the crowds, but close enough to all the action. The attention to detail was second to none in the cottage, as was the sparkling cleanliness. We've already booked our next stay later in the year!
