3di Consulting Ltd is a creative and innovative product design consultancy, offering 3D design services and project management to clients throughout the local area. The company, which is located on the Northampton Science Park, Moulton Park Industrial Estate (Northampton), was set-up in 2001 and the Directors have over 35 years combined experience in the design and production of products within the plastic injection moulding industry.

At the start of any project, once the brief has been established, ideas are produced using freehand techniques, as this is more cost effective and enables the designer to think faster and produce more creative results. Once the design takes shapes the product can be developed in model form, then the engineering and detail design can be generated in 3d CAD. Rapid prototyping techniques can also be used to produce SLA / SLS / vacuum cast components for evaluation, which gives the toolmaker, moulder and customer a chance to see to parts before the tooling is commissioned.

The company is owned by Michael Lannie and Tony Wye, who have both worked in industry and have a full technical understanding of manufacturing products. Michael qualified in 1984 in Industrial Design, initially designing toys and games at Mattel Toys, since then he has worked within the plastic injection moulding industry. Tony graduated in 1995 in Mechanical Engineering from Coventry University and has worked in the Telecommunications industry, designing and developing components for Structured Cabling Systems. He has many years experience using Pro / Engineer a 3D CAD solid modelling package.
