Search Key Phrases
In response to feedback that we’ve received, we have developed a new search system which allows all FreeIndex business members to specify a number of ‘key phrases’.
We have about 4,000 categories on the site, but people search for an unlimited amount of different words and phrases, not all of which are categories. The ‘Key Phrases’ feature should help businesses to get found for relevant searches more easily, and should provide the user with a better set of results.
For example, a plumber might enter the following Key Phrases:
’Emergency Plumbing Service’, ’Pipe fitting’, ’Radiator Installation’, ’Dishwasher Installation’, ’Boiler Installation’, ’Corgi Registered’.
Key Phrase Tips
-
Key Phrases with 2 or 3 words work best. Think about what your customers might type in to find your business apart from your business type. There’s no point in entering your category name as a tag, as your already in the results!
-
Do not enter locations as this won’t help you. No one is going to enter a location in our ‘What’ box.
-
Try to think niche. Tags are only one of the factors in our search algorithm, and entering a common search term such as ‘plumber’ probably won’t mean that you feature in our results very highly.
-
Your Products, Services, and Skills all make for good tags.
Standard members may enter up to 3 Key Phrases, while Premium members may enter up to 8.
Tag Pages
Additionally, we have developed something called ‘Tag Pages’. Basically, we are starting to scan the entire site for commonly used terms, and where appropriate create new pages for those terms. Many phrases are used a lot on the site, but do not warrant their own category.
Going forward, you may see that we have tagged your business for some common terms, which will only help you to get found more often. We also plan to use popular Key Phrases to help us decide which tag pages to create.
We hope you like these new features, and as ever, we welcome your feedback.
Best Regards The FreeIndex Team

 | | Jack E H Billing from All Washing Machines Repaired - (London) | | The trouble is that any Tom Dick or Harry can say they are plumbers or washing machine engineers? Its just the same as when you get bad reviews posted from your competitors like the so called Bosch expert who signs on the dole and claims housing benefits. We need friendly honest and honourable tradesmen only on Freeindex | | Reply to this comment - Posted on 20 Apr 2012 20:47 |

| | John Graham from Strathvac Central Vacuum Systems - (Kilmarnock) | There are no 'key phrases' for specialised products such as Central vacuum Systems.
There are over 4000 systems sold every year in the UK so maybe it would be an idea to include this as well as giving other company's with similar products the chance to have their 'key phrases'
Otherwise a good idea

 | | Freeindex Team from FreeIndex Ltd - (Bristol) | In reply to Howard from Solid Fuel Solutions:
The whole reason we've launched Search Key Phrases is so that you CAN be found for the niche terms you want to be found for.
In your case, all you need to do is go to your search phrase settings and add the terms you want to be found for, ie, "HETAS solid fuel engineers". You will already be found for "Solid Fuel Engineers" because this is one of your categories.
Hope that helps. | | Reply to this comment - Posted on 9 Feb 2012 10:42 |
