FreeIndex is an online directory for UK businesses. It's completely free to add your company - even upgrades are without charge. The site's funded by discreet third party advertising so no matter what your marketing budget is, FreeIndex has something to offer.

It costs nothing to appear on FreeIndex. No credit card or bank details are ever taken - it's 100% free and it lasts for life!

Complete the simple registration form to get your business listed on the site.

Once you've signed up and verified your email address, everyone has access to My FreeIndex. You then have access to your business details, reviews and the MapBook where you can personalise your location and bookmark preferences, and the 'send to mobile' function. You will also be able to apply for jobs listed on FreeIndex.co.uk, and manage any company reviews you have written.

If you chose to register your business it will be listed within the category you have selected (unless you have suggested a new category) and on the pages that match your location. An example of this basic listing is below:



You will then have access to the 'My Business' area where you can: create your own page about your business complete with reviews, a web link, images and more, and advertise jobs within your company.

Your business's profile page, although it may appear 'live' may not be searchable or display all of the details you have entered until your details have been manually approved by our content team.

As long as you want. Your business will remain on the site until you remove it or we find that the business is no longer in existence.

You can hide your business in your 'Account' once logged in to My FreeIndex. If you’d like to delete your account entirely please contact us.

No - Freeindex.co.uk is a UK only business directory.
Only businesses with a UK base and UK customers may appear on the site.

At present, we don’t provide any paid advertising options but are always interested to hear your ideas. If you have an affiliate scheme, please contact us to let us know about your company and the details of your scheme. Or if you are interested in sponsoring part of FreeIndex, you can also contact us using the link above.

Fill out the simple registration form. Once registered you may create your own page, and then add enhanced features. The entire process is free, including upgrades.

You can reset your password by entering your email address. We will then send you an email containing a secure link allowing you to reset your password.

To make things simpler, your username is your email address and your email address is your username. They're the same thing.

If your email address no longer works, you can still log in to FreeIndex but you should then change your details to a new email address that works, to ensure you don't miss out on business enquiries.

You can suggest a category if you can’t find a suitable one to list your business under. Either do this on the registration form or within 'My Business' once you've logged in. In this case, your business will not appear in your suggested category until that category has been approved by our content team or an alternative has been assigned.

Some browsers (especially AOL) block any kind of pop-up and won’t allow you to select a location.

If you really can’t complete the signup process, please contact us and let us know the difficulties you were experiencing and send us the following information:
- Your Full Name
- Your Date of Birth
- Company Name - Must be your official company name
- UK Landline Telephone No.
- Business Postcode
- Business Address
- The category you would like to appear in.

Once signed up, everyone has access to My FreeIndex which is basically a minature version of the site, personalised to suit you. You will also be able to apply for jobs listed on FreeIndex.co.uk, and view any company reviews you have written.

If you chose to register your business it will be listed within the category you have selected and on the relevant location pages. An example of this basic listing is below:



You will then have access to the Advertising area of My FreeIndex, where you can create your own page about your business, request ratings / reviews and advertise jobs within your company.

Please make sure that you use 'zero' instead of 'O' when specifying your postcode.

If your postcode still cannot be found, please contact us to let us know and we will add it to the system.

Businesses can only be listed once on the site. If you run more than one legitimate business you’ll need to create a new account for any additional businesses you want to add. Please use a different email address, and make sure it is evidently distinct from your other businesses - so our content team doesn't mistakenly reject it for being duplicate.
If you find that a business is listed more than once, please contact us to let us know.

We allow franchisees to sign up only when their head office has signed up. All franchises are then listed on the head office page and within their individual locations. Ask your head office to signup if they haven’t already.

After you have registered, you are given the option to create your own page by providing a description of your business's activities. Register Now to find out more.

If you are struggling to complete your company profile, please contact us with the description you would like to appear on your company page.

Remember, this needs to be unique, a minimum of 200 words and written in the third person.

Yes. You can add up to 20 images to your profile description - these should not be logos, but descriptive images that help portray your business, products and services in more detail.

In order to add your company logo you need to select an Enhanced package and then follow the link that says 'Click Here to upload your company logo'. Page Enhancements are free, you just need to link to FreeIndex.co.uk from the homepage of your website.

Your website address only appears once you have an Enhanced listing. To do this, you need to add a link on your website homepage to FreeIndex.co.uk. Links on pages other than your homepage are unfortunately not accepted. Login to to the Page Enhancements section for more information.

Once you have created your own page on the site (by writing a company profile), you can then enhance your page by adding a FreeIndex.co.uk link to your website homepage.

You are then able to add information and pictures for each of your products and services. Go to the Page Enhancements section within My Business for more information.

You can suggest a category if you can’t find a suitable one to list your business under. Gifs and Jpeg images work best. If you have a jpeg image which is a CMYK format, it will not upload. This is the most likely reason why your logo doesn’t display.

Some images with certain characters will also not always upload correctly including images that contain full-stops, commas, colons, ‘%20’ etc. Company Logos are not allowed in your PictureBook as there is a separate field for the logo within the Page Enhancements area. Only photos that help describe what your business does should be uploaded to your PictureBook.

In some cases your details won't appear until they have been manually reviewed. You can track such progress in the 'My Business' section. If you still can't find your details on the site after your listing has been approved, please contact us.

To edit your business details you need to login to 'My FreeIndex'.

Please Note: For security reasons. we cannot make changes to your company information for you. You need to login and do it yourself.

Your company information is reviewed by our team of editors and this can take up to 3 working days. We believe this helps to maintain the quality of the site - ultimately benefiting you - but please be patient as we have many companies to check.

Once logged into your Account Settings, you can remove the first part of your address and the map from your profile page.
Doing this will also hide your company marker on the map-based search results. However, FreeIndex.co.uk is a directory of UK companies, not websites, and as such, displaying your location should rarely be a problem.

We use your company name to create your own page on FreeIndex.co.uk. Your company name must therefore be your official company name and be unique.

We do checks with Companies House to ensure that the businesses listed on the site are indeed the correct names and if for any case more than one business tries to use the same name we will give precedence to the company with the official name.

Yes you can. With an Enhanced listing you can select up to three categories. All other packages can only select one category.

To get an enhanced listing, you need to provide us with a link back to FreeIndex.co.uk from your website homepage - a choice of links is available in the 'My Business' section.

When you change your details they are reviewed by our content team. This usually takes less than three working days.

A link to freeindex.co.uk can be either text or a graphic on the homepage of your website. When clicked it takes the user to FreeIndex.co.uk. Go to the 'My Business' section and choose from a variety of links in the Page Enhancements area.

To add a link to your website you'll need to add some HTML to your homepage.

The code you need to add to your page can be found in the Page Enhancements section within 'My Business'. On Step 1 you can select from a list of text or image link-codes to add to your page.

We provide a list of link options for you to choose from. If you use one of these options and have placed it on your homepage, you have a 99% chance that our link detector will pick up the link on your website. If you decide to create your own type of link, it may not be found.

Links on flash websites, links that are on a re-directed page and links that are not on your homepage will not allow you to get an enhanced page. If the link is on your homepage but our system doesn’t recognise it, keep it there and contact us for a manual check.

Sometimes when you copy and paste it replaces the > and < symbols with < and > Please replace any > and < with > and < respectively in the HTML of your page if you want to fix it.

The following types of links (although the link checker may find them) will, with no exception, be deemed as invalid:
- Hidden links
- Links that are the same colour as the background
- Links where the text size is too small
- Links on pages that cannot be navigated to.
- Javascript redirects
- Links that are not on your homepage (the first page you get to after typing in your URL)

Hidden links or links that are too small to be read can be harmful to our website and more so to yours.

Yes. Even if you can no longer access your old email account you can still use the address to login to FreeIndex and change it (your email address is also your username for the site). login and go to your Account to make the alteration.

Yes you can. Go to your Account, once logged in, and follow the instructions.

How do I remove my business from FreeIndex?
You can remove your business details from FreeIndex in your Account under the Business Preferences heading. This will hide your business details: if you’d like to delete your account entirely please contact us.

It’s worth checking your junk folder to see if the email we have sent you has been mistakenly put in there.

In a very small amount of cases, email providers have overly strict anti-spam policies that may block our emails. Contact us if you have not received your activation email.

You can disable email alerts in 'My Account' once you have logged in.

Yes. You can opt to hide your landline number within your Account, in the Business Preferences section. Your mobile number will be displayed in its place, if you have specified one.

No. Never. FreeIndex is completely free so we have no reason to call you up with the hard sell! If you find yourself paying to use our service, somehting is amis. Please contact us immediately. Thank you.

Yes. But FreeIndex.co.uk is a directory of UK companies that provide an offline service rather than being a list of websites, so your basic location should be displayed. However, you can hide the first part of your address in your Account Settings, so users only have a rough idea about where your business is based.

We aim to ensure that, wherever possible, emails sent to businesses on the site are valid enquiries. We have systems in place to stop misuse of the email facility and as such, sending an email entitled 'test' might not work. As long as the email address you have provided in your Business Details is correct, there shouldn't be a problem.

No. Once your customer has completed their review, it cannot be changed. However, if you believe you're the victim of a slanderous review, please get in touch.

Click on the 'review' link on the page of the company you'd like to review - you'll be taken directly to a short review form.

The default order of listings on FreeIndex.co.uk depends on how many good reviews the business has and its chosen advertising package. All are free but some have Enhanced features so they are displayed first. Others have a company profile (second), while Basic listings feature last because they provide the least information to site users.

If you're logged in; businesses can also be sorted according to your default location (you can change this in you Account) or where you are, after you’ve entered the first part of your postcode.

This is because you have not posted any job vacancies. If you had, then all applicants would be displayed on the Map according to their location.

In order to apply for a job on FreeIndex.co.uk, simply find the one you are interested in and click 'apply for this job'. You will then be asked to create an account, which takes one minute, unless you are already registered.

Following this you can upload your CV, alter the covering letter, and apply online immediately - all free of charge.

Your job advert will be remain active for two months after you add or make a change to it. If you have filled your vacancy or simply forget about your advert, no-one will be able to apply for it after this period. It’s easy enough to re-post your job advert though. Just log in, and re-post the advert and it will be live again for another month.

In some circumstances, FreeIndex administrators may remove job postings from the site if they feel they do not comply with the rules of the site.

Jobs will be removed if:
- The vacancy is not within the company that's recruiting for it.
- The job is a pyramid selling scheme type of job, like franchise parties from home.
- The job does not exist.

You can alter the postcode of your default location in your Account, once logged in. This will not interfere with your business address if you’ve entered one.

Change your default location postcode in your Account, once logged in. It’s not permanent – you can change it again at any time, and it does not interfere with your Business address if you’ve entered one.

If your past customers have reviewed your company they will be displayed in your MapBook. To request ratings and reviews from your customers go to the My Reviews section of My FreeIndex.

The system works out who your competitors are likely to be based on your category and location.

You can bookmark companies from their profile pages across FreeIndex.co.uk, or by clicking on the ‘Bookmark’ links against businesses in your MapBook.

This company has not registered with FreeIndex.co.uk – new companies are registering daily, however we have not bought our data, unlike most directories, so the site's not yet comprehensive.
