1. Good Keywords

2. On Page SEO

3. Off Page SEO (which is also known as Backlinks)

Thanks

It's the right mix of all three that's most important, no?

I agree, it is the right mix of all three.

Backlinks are not much good, without the right on page SEO and keywords in the links etc.

Ultimately back links will get you the traffic and rankings, but not without the others.

Some bits you missed though:
  • Backlinks from relevant content, there are worth much more than backlinks from just anywhere.
  • Banklinks from sites with good PR (Page Rank) are worth so much more than bank links from lower rankings.
  • Make sure the backlinks don't have no follow, like FreeIndex for example, the link I put below will have no follow, so will basically be mostly worthless (for SEO with Google).
  • Frequent and good content published on the site, will get search engines back more often, should get more people linking to you, and should help you get up the search rankings
  • Social marketing (like Twitter and facebook) usually help, but be careful to keep them updated
  • Be careful not to get blacklisted or marked down but linking to dodgy site, or using dodgy link exchanges.
  • Lots of links from different sites are worth more than lots of links from one or two.

Obviously this list is not exhaustive, but covers many of the main areas.

The link example that is basically worthless (till freeindex turn off no follow):

Small Business SEO services from Titan Websites.

Here is the code from the page:

<a href="http://www.titanwebsites.co.uk/index.php/services/seo" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Small Business SEO services</a>

See rel="nofollow", that means search engines ignor this link!

It links to a relevant page, with keywords on the page, title and browser title, in the META tags too. The page it is link from has relevant content. Is essentially a good link, the bad points about this link are:

  • It is from a forum - Search engines rank these lower
  • It is from a page with low or no page rank
  • The site it links from is too generic for the content
  • The killer is: No follow. In SEO terms it is mostly useless.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kash,

All good advice from previous posts.

Don't forget though the most important aspect is to have a good website design and meaningful content about your business/subject/topic

There's no point in having good backlinks, good offline marketing if when the visitor finds your website they are not inspired to have a look around and hopefully turn their interest into an outcome.

The three are directly related to each other. First two are more important factor than the third one because off page optimisation always depends upon the on page optimisation.

I have had my website out there for a few years now and tried most of the above...... Google' s adwords....> managed SEO'S..> etc all cost......................££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

The best way to bring in customers is to advertise your website where your target customers will see you all the rest in my opinion is a waste of time and money

it also depends on income limitations adwords for instance pay per click what is the point in spending £150- £ 200.00 per month if you only close one or two jobs with very little profit

there are company's out there who employ anyone with time on there hands to spam for back links! they do not work !

Target your potential customers with a real service or product , Deliver it with professional ability and  exceptional customer care and you will succeed
