The worst mistake that you can make at a networking event is go straight in and try and sell.
Take an interest in and listen to the people you are talking to.
Don't push yourself but let the other person ask you what you do. Keep your answer brief and concise and leave it at that. Take business cards to give to people who ask for them. Ask for their business card.
After the event email the people you were talking to (email address from business cards - don't do a mass email from the list of attendees) saying thank you and offering help if they need you/your service. Ask how you can help them.
