Just finished improving my website which now has a better Computer Services section, live chat facility through out the site and improved SEO.

I have tried to make the site easy to navigate around, easier to read and understand, added a couple of pieces for people that are not technical to make it easy to understand and added a new Tools page which contains 101 tools free to use.

I would really like to know what your thoughts are on the changes.

Hi Steve O.

Completed a quick review and detailed my thoughts:-

1. Look, feel and navigation good.

However some suggested improvements:-

1. Not sure why you have used an image on the front page 'Why Choose SoPCs' then a list of bullet points. I would suggest it would have been much better to have included as text as search engines find this much easier to understand than an image especially as you have not included an ALT tag within the image

2. As a rule you should not underline text unless it is a link

3. On the 'Our Services' page

a. I would have liked to have seen the main page to have displayed each sub page in the same order as per the drop down menu list.

b. I would also suggest it would be better to have a linked each sub page image instead of a 'Read More' link.

4. I still can't find a 'Privacy' page or T&Cs page.

5. Ran W3C html checker and you have some minor errors on each page

6. Ran W3C links checker and you have a broken link

Hope this helps

Good spot Steve, I missed the fact that it was an image when it should have just been text. Now gone through site to double check all text.

2. As a rule you should not underline text unless it is a link

All underlined text now corrected, didnt realise that was the general practice. So thanks.

3. On the 'Our Services' page

a. I would have liked to have seen the main page to have displayed each sub page in the same order as per the drop down menu list.

b. I would also suggest it would be better to have a linked each sub page image instead of a 'Read More' link.

All images are now linked to relevant page, Read more has now been removed.

4. I still can't find a 'Privacy' page or T&Cs page.

Really struggling with obtaining Privacy and T&C's as i could not write them myself as i dont know the terminology or legal side.

5. Ran W3C html checker and you have some minor errors on each page

The problem here is:

Line 66, Column 4: document type does not allow element "h1" here; missing one of "object", "applet", "map", "iframe", "button", "ins", "del" start-tag<h1>Computer Repairs, Services and IT Support.</h1>

The mentioned element is not allowed to appear in the context in which you've placed it; the other mentioned elements are the only ones that are both allowed there and can contain the element mentioned. This might mean that you need a containing element, or possibly that you've forgotten to close a previous element.

One possible cause for this message is that you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as "<p>" or "<table>") inside an inline element (such as "<a>", "<span>", or "<font>").

6. Ran W3C links checker and you have a broken link

This is to do with the addthis widget, I'm sure this is out of my control unless I removed it.

Thank you

Steve O

Hi Steve,

A nice, clean, technical website with loads of information. What I like most are:
  • layout plus the fact that each page fits in one screen (for me anyway),
  • good calls for action,
  • great detailing of what is included in the prices for each service,
  • great links - although why Seattle?
  • the way you present your comments - its refreshing,
  • good use of icons and, although normally they do not recommend using different colour fonts, I actually like it as it really makes the text stand out.
  • tools page,
  • statistics are an unexpected entertainment (and worry!),

What I liked least (only to be picky):
  • a few scattered spelling mistakes missed,
  • website header phone number still clumped, hence more difficult to read,
  • the font but only because of its size. Could you try Verdana for all text (12pt and below) as it is a font that suits smaller sizes and have Arial for any headers (12pt and above). Verdana does make the difference!
  • the colour mix (grey header, green menu items, occasional blue text and icons) - I am not sure whether it works that well. I would have chosen just 2 colours,
  • a picture of you and any team members would be great as people like to relate to people and since you are offering a remote service it would make people feel more at ease knowing who they are dealing with.
  • could have explained more clearly about the remote service, I feel there are some minimal gaps in there. Ask your users...

What confused me - you are using Associated text on your menu items, which appears when the mouse passes over - did you really mean to have:
  • "SoPCs IT Support" for menu item "Your Comments"?
  • "PC Maintenance" for menu item "Charities"?
  • "Remote Computer Support" for menu item "Tools"?
  • "Data Backup Services" for menu item "Links"?

It may help with SEO but at the expense of your customers. I have to admit that I have never seen menu items with Associated text before and, in fact, you could be the only one!!! To be honest, I am unsure whether you should leave it or not. Does anyone knows what is the stance of Google and associated spiders on this? You would not like to be "marked down"...

Anyway, well done! Very user friendly, professional without the jargon (although I did not read it all) and informative.  Enough to make your customers feel they are in good hands.

Kind Regards,
