Do you believe that it is cheaper to retain your existing customers rather than to recruit new ones through advertising? This is often answered "yes of course", but why do so many companies not act on it? Sending a weekly email is not the solution. You have to segment your database into key areas, understand it and use the insight gained to improve loyalty and increase the effectiveness of your advertising too.

Hi Danny

Yes, if only every business had an electronic database, or at least a spreadsheet with all their customers' details on.Smile

From my experience, many small / owner managed businesses struggle to keep those records up to date, and often there is very little time or money for sales & marketing.

It's not a simple subject either, unless you are a natural analist and communicator.

The 'Marketing for Dummies' (link) books can be very useful to help improve that side of the business.

I found them easy to read, funny and great to pass-on to other interested people.

Yes definately. Plus customer retention can lead to these happy customers recommending you to other people. People will trust the word of someone they trust and respect rather than words on a poster.
