Even though the work was spot on there are so called customers that are looking to either get the job done for half the cost of which you quote them i.e. give some payment along the way to keep the trust that they will pay in the end but never intend too. I looked for a way to report the clients who did the same to me on here but i could not find a way to either on here or any other site. I think there should be a site called rouge customers where tradesmen can report these people so no one else gets stung by them. As jacqueline suggested you could go back and remove some of the wall to see if they may pay up then but be careful as posesion is 9 tenths of the law but if go on the request of the customers to remove the rubbish and notice that your not happy with some of the brickwork so you removed it! and then suggest that you will return to reinstate it another day but could they have the final payment waiting for you in cash that might help .small claims court is not really a good way to go as even if you win the case they may be ordered to pay £10 a week . I hope you have some luck sorting this out.

| Reply : 13 May 2012 send them a letter that if you are not paid within 7 days you will take them to the small claims court you can do this on line when they receive the summons they have about three weeks to pay or defend it with a written reason why they have not paid. if the workmanship is good they don't have a leg to stand on But the court requires you to give them a final notice, if they don't respond or defend the claim judgement will go in your favour and all the credit reference agents will be informed it still may not get you your cash...... but after a while you could i think that i am right in saying put a charge on there house !!!....... ( ask in the legal forum) Revenge is best served cold !!! |

If the total amount comes to in excess of £500 you can apply for a bankruptcy hearing. Also if they own their own home which i think they would you can make a charge against the sale of their home. Try some of these ideas. In your letter you should realy tell them of your intentions of the above. Yes they will be furious however they will have sense to pay as all the solicitors fees will land at their feet. Recomendations. Frankly i wouldnt want any work from customers who work like that at all. I have afew people try to get out of paying for new boiler installations but if they own a small business a winding up order does the trick overnight. Good luck and remember dont give them anything to say harrasment. Tell them what you are going to do and do it. if you have a friend with a jcn handy who will come along on the day of removal ensure you record you knocking the door as a last chance. |

Then charge her to rectify what you already took down. In my experience if you try to do customers favours it always ends up costing you money. We are here to make a living, not to make new friends that don't want to pay for quality. |

How true ! in an ideal and just world you should be allowed to return to a job and remove the benefit of your labour when a customer trys to con you However the law takes a different view if you rock up to someone's property and entire without invitation you are trespassing if they call the police most likely you will be arrested and if you have caused damage then you could be charged with Malicious damage and find yourself in court ! sorry guys but the only way is the law ! go to the small claims court it is a pain but the only way if you want to be paid |

But if you had a judgement order to produce to police tey'd likely come out on your side which would then make the woman see sense and pay up. There again it's all hassle isn't it? Who needs it? By the way, the best place to start warning people about her is the place she originated her enquiry to you. |
