For restaurants social media marketing is essential, however few people understand how to use it effectively or have the time to do it themselves.

There are however a few tips and tricks we can share with you to exponentially increase your time and efforts.

This three video series is educational only and we are not promoting a service of any kind. If you find them useful however we would be very glad of your comments.

I'll accept that social media is useful but I'm not convinced that social media is ESSENTIAL in restaurant marketing. Before people start dabbling in social media they need to get the essentail right. For example good food, value, excellent hygiene, excellent customer service, upselling, follow up .. well the list is long but far too many restaurants fail on these and I would suggest they get these right before trying social media. I might add I am a social media advocate .. but I've never seen a restaurant suceed with social media when the basics are wrong.

I have recently been working on some copy for a restaurant and suggested to them that they should start a social media campaign as part of their ongoing marketing strategy. It is just a small restaurant and the owner hasn't got much time on his hands so I suggested Twitter as a good place to start. He now Tweets regularly about new dishes, ingredients, what specials they have on each day etc and he has been really pleased with the results.

I would add that I completely agree with Stefan's comments - no amount of Tweeting will make up for bad food and poor service so make sure you've got something good to shout about before you start shouting!

Hi all,

A quick peek at my blog on this subject.

Its so important to get the "feel" of your Social media strategy right.

Overkill puts people off just as much as not engaging them enough.

Good comments however i will categorically state that social media marketing when done right will hands down propel a restaurant to the next level above the ones that don't use it.

We have clients who have have doubled their business using the 140GMS modules

Social marketing encourages your customers to discuss your restaurant, in the form of tweets, posts, tags, pins, or photos (to name a few). With technology growing smaller - think iPads and Smart Phones- people have instant access to their favorite social media sites all the time. Today it is easier than ever for restaurants to build a strong online reputation.
