I asked the following before but never got a definite answer or not one that I understood clear enough!

I'm registered as a 'sole trader' in my personal name but I now have a company name. Now do i need to contact HMRC to tell them this and if yes are there any additional costs attached to this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Glen

On the basis that you are not a limited company and you just have a business name instead of your own name - There is nothing for you to do since as a sole trader you and your business are one. When you complete your self assessment tax return you will have the space to put the name there.

As regards to costs - if you mean tax, tax rates will not be any different. The same applies to accountancy fees.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help.

No not a limited company. So as far as the HMRC are concerned my business name is still 'my name' and not this new company name I have? I trade using my new company name now (Printception) my stationery/invoices etc has this name on, so I'm not doing anything wrong and I don't need to do anything?

Thanks Aziz for your help.

By the way what's a fair fee for an accountant to charge to fill out my end of year tax form?

Fee varies from accountant to accountant and the amount of work involved. I suggest you use FreeIndex's Create a New Quote Request. It is under a Business Leads tab. You will have accountants chasing you for business!
