Wouldnt have adsense there, just for few pence you might get from adsense you might loose a customer to a competitor. After all, google is going to put related ads to your page and quite possibly another painter and decorator.

Just my two cents.

regards

Hi. I did think of that. The reason I chose to add adsense was to get as much internet coverage as possible, hoping to get my site listed in search engines as I'm not listed at the mo.

I will probably take adsense off. Cheers

Anybody else got any comments? Does my company look too expensive to hire?

HI Ya,

Website looks great and looks like the company who built it has included good content. However (technical stuff), the Meta content does not relate to any geographic location. So even if, on a google search, somebody search for 'decorator north east' or any districts within NE your site would never list.

Like the 'alt' titles but again, not helpful to google.

My advise. . .  . . Get site builders to address geographic in meta content.

Feel free to 'page' & 'view source' on my site www.advanscape.talktalk.net for my meta content. The meta content lists my on google page 1 for most searches pertaining t landscaping/landsacpe gardening etc in the area I choose to promote myself ie redditch, bromsgrove, studley etc.

Hope above helps & all the best.

'Bruce'

Hi Paul,

Completed a review of your website using Firefox and IE8 and my thoughts below:-

1. Nice style and layout

2. Firefox & IE8: The left hand side images: Hover mouse over the images and it appears I should be able to click on them but nothings happens.

3. Firefox & IE8: Bottom 6 images: Not sure why you have used Flash for these as they appear to be static images. If they are static images would be better to have as images so you could use ALT tags, which helps screen readers for the visual impaired.

4. Firefox: The 'Join this site/login' links don't work.

5. Top 6 images and examples gallery. I would suggest an improved gallery software so when you click on any of the images it allows the visitor to click next/back or left/right so they can browse through the image gallery without having to close the image down and then click on a new image.

6. You could improve the page titles to make them more specific to the content of the page

7. Meta tags 'content' I would suggest you should limit the maximum number of characters to 255

8. Would suggest an email address using your domain name would be more professional such as: enquiries@hodgson-anderson.com.

9. Not sure why you need a google search bar at the top.

10. Would be useful to have all the locations you cover within your content and also have a page with locations covered with a map.

11. As you are a geographical business have you registered with Google Places?

12. Would be nice to have a favicon for the website.

Hope this helps - if so please give a thumbs up.

Regards

Ah thanks folks for your help. Just what the doctor ordered :)

I built the site using a template builder and added the content myself. Some things I can't change like the gallery application but I will try to address the other issues. Thanks again

hi I personally find the first page a bit busy - I wouldn't put that much text in the box on the right - make it more to the point

too many background colours, keep it calm - otherwise, I love the pictures, it really shows what you can do and the result !

good luck

Agree with the previous poster. You have poor SEO on the site and I think you could do pretty well if the site was properly optimised.

I think the template you've used doesn't do you any favours.  There are much better ways to do this.

As you've said you'll give up on SEO may I ask you why?   Is it because you've tried and it didn't work and you suspect that it may never work, or do you think it can work, but it's too difficult, or maybe another reason.

I am curious to know, if you don't mind telling.

HiYa Again,

I've seen you have changed your Meta content which is a vast improvement though not in the right place and the content is not correct enough for 'google' to see what you want it to see.

Please find below the content and analysis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title:29H & A Painting and DecoratingDescription:192Painting, decorating services, painting and decorating, hand painted kitchens and painted furniture, ageing and distressing furniture, colour washing walls, stenciling and hand painted murals.Keywords:448painting, decorating, decorators in newcastle, painters in newcastle, northeast painting decorating, exterior painting, painting and decorating in newcastle, painting and decorating wood, interior painting and decorating, exterior painting, painting newcastle and decorating newcastle, painter and decorators in newcastle, professional painters, paint exterior, paint crafts, painting contractors in newcastle, diy, decorating, painters, decoratorsMeta tags analysis.Title:Title meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 29 characters.
Title relevancy to page content is excellent.
The Title relevancy to page content is 100%.
Description:Description meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 192 characters.
Description relevancy to page content is fair.
The Description relevancy to page content is 67%.
Keywords:Keyword relevancy to page content is terrible. However, this is not necessarily bad if you have a lot of content. The most important factor is to have your keywords on the page a few times.
The keywords relevancy to page content is 11%.

This tag is not really required but helps for your (company) name recognition.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't give up mate. your getting there. It took me 2years on and off to realise whats required.

Best settings are: (characters include spaces)

65 characters for Title. To where here put in the area you cover, you already say what you do but not where you do it.

156 characters for Description. Again what you do & where you do it. and remember the description is displayed under the title when 'Google' finds it so make it inviting, NOT just a long list.

256 characters for Keywords. Here you are way over the top. Helpful hint. 'decorators in newcastle, painters in newcastle etc, ' is easily replaced by 'painters, decorators, wood, painting, in, furniture, newcastle, upon, tyne, wallsend, gateshead, blaydon; (note how a search for 'painting wood furniture wallsend' would create a result)

note here, I dought people will search for 'north east' though looks good on your site. People are more lightly to search for localised areas. Also note most of what you cover is now in a few words.

I used microsoft word to type and check characters lengths. Have a play around. You don't have to be bang on but the closer you are the optomised characters, the more interested the 'spiders' are and the better you will be in beating the competition, of course unless the competition use 'pay per click'.

Then you have to make sure all the content you have listed in  Description & Keywords, is replicated on the Home Page (index.html) Can be tricky to do but this is how the analytics get to 100%.

Also change the back link you have for freeindex to your actual page not the search page you currently have.

& change the 'alt text' you have on pics, and include more 'alt text' to emulate Title & Description.

Set up your 'robots' and 'author' (it helps) Probably find them on your web software on 'advanced' settings under 'search engines'.

Don't expect results with 'Google' overnight after you have uploaded. Can take several weeks before your site is 'crawled' again. Though you can enter immediatly you site home page http://www.hodgson-anderson.com/   into

http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/

to see if the work you have done is working.

There are ways to get 'Google' to look at your site quicker but most cost money.

All the best, Don't give up.

Steve.

Paul

I'd like your input now  ....

Would what I have posted here have appealed to you had you had the opportunity?  It would have solved the problems you have now. But would you have chosen a option like this at the time?

Thanks for any feedback

Paul. In your services add more detailed reasoning why customers should use your professional services, demonstrate your knowledge and experiece in decorating also write more information about other services your company provides, but give each service its own page. Use good keyphrase links in context of a sentence tageting your main keywords but also local areas, this will increase you chances of being found on Google. It is important that any new content is unique to your business and not copied.

Hi Paul,

Your home page looks messy -place the text either up and the pictures down scrolling  OR  the right on the left side and the pictures on the right...

On the second page, your photo at work takes time to load.

You could probably use a scroll at the bottom highlighting your expertise (pointed)

Thanks,

Yogi
