Amazon Books UK was one of the very first companies to sell books online. Amazon has experience phenomenal growth in recent times; it's range of products are growing all the time and they are able to boast that 90% of all book sales made on online in the UK are made through Amazon Books UK.

The Amazon Books UK website began life as 'Cadabra.com' in 1995 and was founded by Jeff Bezos. The website was founded on the basis that it wouldn't make a profit for five year - this is quite a risk to take but it seems to have paid off - Amazon UK finally announced it's first profit in late 2002, largely due to the success of it's Amazon Books UK division.

The new and exciting feature called 'Search Inside the Book' allows visitors to the website the ability to search for keywords within the text of many popular books. The program currently has about a quarter of a million books in the program.

Aswell as Amazon Books UK there are also other products available on the rest of the Amazon UK website, such as CDs, DVDs and all sorts of related consumables. If you become a registered user, everything's personalised according to your previous purchases - it's as if Amazon UK is building up a picture of your tastes and the kind of books you like: to make it easier to recommend something in the future. Pretty clever stuff!
